RATIONALE: Chemoprevention therapy is the use of certain drugs to try to prevent the development of cancer. It is not yet known whether fenretinide given before surgery is more effective in preventing ovarian cancer than surgery alone. PURPOSE: Randomized clinical trial to compare the effectiveness of fenretinide followed by surgery with that of surgery alone in preventing ovarian cancer in patients who are at increased risk.

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of carboxyamidotriazole in treating patients with refractory or recurrent ovarian epithelial, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer.

A feasibility study of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) followed by interval cytoreductive surgery (ICS) and postoperative chemotherapy for stage III/IV mullerian carcinomas such as ovarian, tubal and peritoneal carcinomas.

This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of giving 7-hydroxystaurosporine together with irinotecan hydrochloride in treating patients with metastatic or unresectable solid tumors, including triple-negative breast cancer (currently enrolling only patients with triple-negative breast cancer since 6/8/2007). Combining more than one drug and giving the drugs in different combinations may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known which combination chemotherapy regimen is more effective in treating ovarian epithelial, primary peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of different combination chemotherapy regimens in treating patients who have stage IIB, stage III, or stage IV ovarian epithelial cancer , primary peritoneal cancer, or fallopian tube cancer.

The purpose of this research study is to determine if TLK286 given in combination with carboplatin is more effective than liposomal doxorubicin in treating women who have recurrent ovarian epithelial cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer, that is refractory or resistant to platinum chemotherapy.

Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of LMB-9 immunotoxin in treating patients who have advanced colon, breast, non-small cell lung, bladder, pancreatic, or ovarian cancer. The LMB-9 immunotoxin can locate tumor cells and kill them without harming normal cells.

This is an open-label, single-arm, two-stage, multicenter Phase II study evaluating the efficacy and safety of bevacizumab in women with platinum resistant, advanced (Stage III or IV) EOC (epithelial ovarian cancer) or PPC (primary peritoneal cancer) that subsequently progressed either during treatment with Doxil or Hycamtin therapy or within 3 months of discontinuing treatment with Doxil or Hycamtin therapy.

This clinical trial is studying the amount of EF5 and motexafin lutetium present in tumor cells and/or normal tissues of patients with abdominal (such as ovarian, colon, or stomach cancer) or non-small cell lung cancer. EF5 may be effective in measuring oxygen in tumor tissue. Photosensitizing drugs such as motexafin lutetium are absorbed by tumor cells and, when exposed to light, become active and kill the tumor cells. Knowing the level of oxygen in tumor tissue and the level of motexafin lutetium absorbed by tumors and normal tissue may help predict the effectiveness of anticancer therapy
