The Effect of Anticholinergics on Cognitive Function in the Elderly

Mental CompetencyUrinary Bladder2 more

Anticholinergic medication is used to treat overactive bladder (OAB). A known side effect of this medication is cognitive dysfunction. OAB is more prevalent in the elderly population - a group that also has a higher baseline risk of cognitive dysfunction. Our objective is to evaluate the effect of an anticholinergic medication on cognitive function in elderly women.

Topical Oestrogens and Antimuscarinics In The Treatment Of Detrusor Overactivity

Overactive Bladder

Despite the great number of reports about the efficacy of oestrogens or antimuscarinics on OAB symptoms, so far no author has tried to investigate whether the concomitant administration of these two drugs, acting on two different pathophysiological mechanisms, could have a synergic effect reducing the rate of non-responders to treatment.

"The Effects of Caffeine on Overactive Bladder Symptoms and Mental Health in Postmenopausal Women"...

Overactive BladderCaffeine1 more

The purpose of this study is to observe effects of caffeine on overactive bladder symptoms and wellbeing. This study looks at whether caffeine has bad effects on urinary symptoms or if lower doses of caffeine decrease the effects. The study will propose the following hypothesis: The voiding and mental health symptoms will be greatest in the high dose treatment and lowest in the placebo treatment. The low dose treatment will produce more voiding and mental health symptoms than the placebo treatment. Voiding and mental health symptoms will be mediated by hydration status of the patient which will be assessed using a Tanita Scale.

Phase 1 Study With OAB Assessing the Safety and Activity of hMaxi-K Gene Transfer

Overactive Bladder

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the safety of a single treatment of hMaxi-K compared to placebo (PBS-20% sucrose) administered by direct bladder wall injections. Two dose levels (16000 µg and 24000 µg; 20 or 30 bladder wall injections, respectively) in females with moderate Overactive Bladder/Detrusor overactivity (OAB/DO) of ≥6 months duration will be evaluated. In each dose level, 6 participants will receive hMaxi-K and 3 will receive placebo.
