Exploring the Comorbidity Between Mental Disorders and General Medical Conditions
OrganicIncluding Symptomatic42 moreMental disorders have been shown to be associated with a number of general medical conditions (also referred to as somatic or physical conditions). The investigators aim to undertake a comprehensive study of comorbidity among those with treated mental disorders, by using high-quality Danish registers to provide age- and sex-specific pairwise estimates between the ten groups of mental disorders and nine groups of general medical conditions. The investigators will examine the association between all 90 possible pairs of prior mental disorders and later GMC categories using the Danish national registers. Depending on whether individuals are diagnosed with a specific mental disorder, the investigators will estimate the risk of receiving a later diagnosis within a specific GMC category, between the start of follow-up (January 1, 2000) or at the earliest age at which a person might develop the mental disorder, whichever comes later. Follow-up will be terminated at onset of the GMC, death, emigration from Denmark, or December 31, 2016, whichever came first. Additionally for dyslipidemia, follow-up will be ended if a diagnosis of ischemic heart disease was received. A "wash-out" period will be employed in the five years before follow-up started (1995-1999), to identify and exclude prevalent cases from the analysis. Individuals with the GMC of interest before the observation period will be considered prevalent cases and excluded from the analyses (i.e. prevalent cases were "washed-out"). When estimating the risk of a specific GMC, the investigators will consider all individuals to be exposed or unexposed to the each mental disorder depending on whether a diagnosis is received before the end of follow-up. Persons will be considered unexposed to a mental disorder until the date of the first diagnosis, and exposed thereafter.
Near-Infrared Spectroscopy in Myofascial Pain Syndrome
Myofascial Pain SyndromeRegional Tissue Oxygen SaturationMyofascial pain syndrome is a regional pain syndrome accompanied by sensorial, motor and autonomic symptoms . myofascial trigger points are most frequently detected in the upper trapezius, levator scapula, and axial postural muscles such as rhomboid major. Myofascial pain syndrome is characterized by active myofascial trigger points in the form of focal hyperirritable nodules palpated in the tight band of the muscle . Alteration of tissue vascularization could limit or prevent th may cause adhesions, contractures and pain. As a result of decreased blood flow, tissue oxygenation may decrease.
Effectiveness of Different Methods in Acute Myofascial Pain Syndrome
Myofacial Pain SyndromesThis study is a randomized controlled study. A total of 75 patients between the ages of 20-50 who have a diagnosis of acute myofacial pain syndrome in the trapezius muscle and have pain for a maximum of 5 days were included in the study. Patients were randomly divided into 3 groups. Group 1 patients received kinesio tape method (25 patients), group 2 patients received trigger point injection method (25 patients), and group 3 patients received neural therapy injection method (25 patients). A 10-15 cm sized I band was applied to the trapezius muscles of the first group patients with the patient's neck in lateral flexion. Then, while the patient's neck is flexed, a Y-shaped 15-20 cm tape will be affixed between C1-7 with the arms of the Y up, and I tape of 5-10 cm is attached on the arms. In group 2 patients, 1 cc lidocaine diluted with 4 cc saline (SF) was applied to the trigger points palpated manually in the trapezius muscles. After the trigger point was squeezed between the thumb and index finger, a few cc of local anesthetic mixture was applied into the trigger point with the injector and exited. In the 3rd group patients, a few cc local anesthetic mixture will be applied intradermally over the trigger point without entering into the trigger points palpated manually in the trapezius muscles. Patients were checked 72 hours and 1 week after the first applications. The pain at rest and during movement of the patients in all 3 groups were evaluated with a visual analog scale (VAS 10 cm). The number of trigger points was determined by the physician by hand palpation. Pressure pain threshold was evaluated with the algometer device. Disability assessment of the patients was made using the neck pain disability index. evaluations were made at the beginning of treatment, 72 hours after and 1 week after treatment.
Body Perception and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
Complex Regional Pain SyndromesIn CRPS, perturbation of body image and pseudo-neglect syndrome of the body part affected are frequently found. Pain and sensory perturbation seems to modify the way patients perceived their body part affected. Does a local body image perturbation can affect the balanced of the global self-awareness?
Prevalence of Myofascial Pain Syndrome in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Scoliosis; AdolescenceMyofascial Pain Syndrome3 morethis is an observational and cross-sectional prevalence study. 10-18 years aged participants with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis were recruited in the study. Myofascial pain syndrome will be questioned to the participants. additionally, all participants will be evaluated using their findings for scoliosis and myofascial pain syndrome diagnostic criteria. Cobb angle, coronal balance, shoulder and pelvis asymmetry, sagittal spino-pelvic parameters of the spine (cervical lordosis, thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis angles and sagittal vertical axis, sacral slop angle and pelvic incidence) will be measured.
Urdu Version of Kujala Questionnaire: A Reliability and Validity Study
Patellofemoral Pain SyndromeAnterior Knee Pain SyndromeThe aim of this research is to interpret and make Kujala Questionnaire adaptable culturally into Urdu to investigate its validity and reliability in Pakistani population among anterior knee pain or patello femoral knee pain. Also check its correlation with 36-Item Short Form Health Survey questionnaire, Lysholm Knee Scoring Scale and 2000 International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Evaluation Form.
Welfare Benefits in Functional Somatic Disorders
FibromyalgiaIrritable Bowel Syndrome5 moreThe objective of this observational study is to estimate the number of weeks of welfare benefits, i.e. sickness benefit, unemployment benefit and social assistance, for individuals with functional somatic disorders and compare them to healthy individuals, and individuals with severe physical disease.
Psychiatric Disorders and Functional Somatic Disorders
Irritable BowelFibromyalgia3 moreThe objectives of this study are: Firstly, to investigate the association between psychiatric disorders and functional somatic disorder (FSD). Secondly, to investigate whether psychiatric disorders are risk factors for newly developed (incident) FSD after a 5-year follow-up period.
Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
Greater Trochanteric Pain SyndromeGreater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) is a common cause of musculoskeletal pain. The primary aim of this study is to describe the soft tissue and bony structural ultrasound (US) findings identified in the lateral hip and iliotibial band (ITB) in patients presenting with greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) in an outpatient rheumatology clinic.
The Experiences of Patients With Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome.
Greater Trochanteric Pain SyndromeGreater Trochanteric Pain syndrome (GTPS) is a debilitating condition causing pain on the outside of the hip. This study aims to explore the experiences, beliefs and expectations of patients with GTPS, using semi-structured interviews.
