Dexmedetomidine for Prevention of Chronic Postoperative Pain

Chronic Postoperative Pain

Chronic postoperative pain (CPSP) is common symptom in patients after surgery, seriously affected the quality of life. Accumulating evidences have demonstrated dexmedetomidine can improve chronic pain. However, the prevention of dexmedetomidine on CPSP remain uncertain.

Botulinum Toxin Injection in Patients Undergoing Hemorrhoidectomy-A Prospective, Randomized Study...

The Influence of Timing of Botulinum Toxin Injection on Postoperative Pain Control

This is a prospective, randomized study, which anticipatedly recruited 60 patients in the outpatient department who need hemorrhoidectomy from January 2019 to December 2019. After obtaining those patients' consent in the clinic, they were randomly assigned to two groups at a 1:1 ratio using a computer-generated list of random numbers (Microsoft Excel). One group received Botulinum toxin injection during the outpatient clinic one week before the operation(experimental group, EG), and the other group received injection during the operation(control group, CG). The two groups were compared for the influence of postoperative pain control and wound healing rate.

Chronic Postoperative Pain After the Lichtenstein Groin Hernioplasty

HerniaInguinal6 more

The study attempts to quantify the relative risks for chronic postoperative inguinal pain (CPIP) after Lichtenstein repair of groin hernia, depending on mesh type and fixation suture material. For this purpose the investigators will analyze data from the Swedish Hernia Registry (SHR).

Prediction of Chronic Postsurgical Pain in Adults

Chronic Postsurgical PainAcute Post Operative Pain

This research will be a prospective single-centre observational cohort study in Denmark spanning approximately one year. The objective of this study is to develop a clinically applicable and generalizable prediction model for postsurgical pain in adults.

ESP Block, CNP and QoL After VATS

Postoperative PainVideo-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery

The Erector Spinae Plane Block (ESPB) is an adequate alternative for pain management after video-assisted thoracoscopy surgery (VATS). The incidence of postoperative chronic neuropathic pain (CNP) and the quality of life (QoL) in patients with ESPB after VATS remain unknown. We hypothesised that patients with ESPB would have a low incidence of acute and CNP and would report a good QoL up to three months after VATS.

Acute Postoperative Pain Prevalence and Intensity in the First 72 Hours

Post Operative Pain

Postoperative pain is poorly studied in developing countries. Severe pain after surgery remains a major problem, occurring in 50% to 70% of the patients. Differences exist across countries. Despite numerous published studies, the degree of pain following many types of surgery in everyday clinical practice is unknown. To improve postoperative pain treatment and develop procedure-specific, optimized pain-treatment protocols, the prevalence and severity of postoperative pain must first be identified. This study aimed to determine the incidence and intensity of acute postoperative pain, to identify populations associated with a higher risk in order to guide resource allocation, and to investigate whether inexpensive analgesic modalities are currently utilized maximally.

Serum Potassium as a Predictor of Clinical Outcomes in an Older Patient Cohort With Chronic Postsurgical...

PotassiumDecreased Level2 more

Perioperative serum potassium in patients over 65 impacts recovery, quality of life and physical functioning. While perioperative serum potassium is an important preoperative risk factor for poor surgical outcomes in older adults, the relationship between perioperative serum potassium and postsurgical pain in this population has not been investigated. The investigators hypothesized that preoperative serum potassium would be associated with greater odds of postsurgical chronic pain.

Natural History of Pain After Shoulder Arthroplasty Conducted With Multimodal Analgesia

TSABruise2 more

This study aims to identify the timeline of pain following total shoulder replacement with the goal of developing data for a subsequent randomized trial. The investigators believe that with using HSS's current protocol, many patients have postoperative pain that is no worse than their preoperative pain. Previous HSS anesthesia protocols for total shoulder arthroplasty patients have not formally followed patients past their hospital discharge, and the investigators believe that some patients do experience moderate to severe subacute postoperative pain. Therefore, this study's primary outcome is to look at the numeric pain scores at 14 days after surgery. Future studies will look at measures of preventing bruising and subsequent pain after shoulder replacement.
