Clonidine as Pain Relief During ROP Eye Examinations
Retinopathy of PrematurityPain2 morePreterm infants are at risk of developing ROP (retinopathy of prematurity), an eye condition that can cause blindness. Preterm infants born before gestation week (GA) 30 are therefor screened regularly with eye examinations. These eye examinations are painful and despite a lot of research no clear method of pain relief have been found. Since pain in the preterm infant can lead to both short- and longterm negative consequences an effective pain relief during these examinations are of importance. In this study we will investigate if Clonidine can be effective as pain-relief during ROP eye examinations.
Nebulized Lidocaine and Intranasal Midazolam for NGT Insertion in Children
Procedural AnxietyProcedural PainNasogastric tube (NGT) is a commonly performed procedure in the Emergency Department. Although it is not a major procedure, it is usually associated with a bad experience and cause discomfort and pain in kids. This randomized controlled double-blinded double-dummy trial aims to investigate the efficacy of local topical anesthetic and/or anxiolysis for pain/anxiety related to NGT insertion. Eligible patients are children with gastroenteritis aged 6 months to 5 years requiring NGT rehydration. The intervention are 3 arms of nebulized lidocaine with midazolam compared to nebulized midazolam alone or placebo. The primary outcome is procedure-related pain assessment using the Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, and Consolability (FLACC) scale during final NGT insertion attempt.
Post-procedural Pain Associated With 5 Versus 20 Intravesical Injections of Onabotulinumtoxin A...
Urinary BladderOveractive7 moreCurrently, in clinical practice there has been no standardization in the number of injections a single dose of intradetrusor onabotulinumtoxin A is administered in. Given the increasing use of this treatment modality, the aim of this study is to compare outcomes for patients given a 100 unit dose of onabotulinumtoxin A split into 5 as compared to 20 injections for the treatment of overactive bladder or urgency urinary incontinence refractory to medical treatment.
A Study of Remote Electrical Neuromodulation for Acute Procedural Pain
Chronic MigraineThe purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of using remote electrical neuromodulation, using the Nerivio ® device, to relieve pain associated with receiving onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) injections for chronic migraine prevention.
RCT of Pain Perception With Fast and Slow Tenaculum Application
PainAcute2 moreThis project will be a randomized controlled trial (RCT) measuring pain perception with two different tenaculum placement techniques on the uterine cervix. A tenaculum is an instrument used to hold the cervix (the opening to the uterus or womb) in place. The trial will measure pain perception with a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) from 0 to 100 mm for two different tenaculum placement techniques, fast and slow closure on the uterine cervix. The main objective of this study is to determine if there is a difference in pain perception with fast compared to slow tenaculum placement techniques on the uterine cervix. We hypothesize that the slow technique will be perceived as less painful for subjects as measured on a 0 mm to 100 mm Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Subsidiary objectives include describing overall pain levels during the procedure.
Regional Anesthesia Following Pediatric Cardiac Surgery
Atrial Septal DefectVentricular Septal Defect2 moreThe purpose of this study is to evaluate pain control following pediatric cardiac surgery with the use of local anesthesia via an ultrasound guided regional anesthetic technique compared with surgeon delivered wound infiltration.
Evaluating the Feasibility of VR for Pediatric Renal Biopsies
PainProcedural2 moreThe purpose of this study is to assess the use of virtual reality (VR) as an adjunct or alternative to pharmacologic sedation in pediatric patients undergoing renal biopsy.
Effect of TENS Application After Thoracic Surgery
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve StimulationProcedural PainAfter thoracic surgery, a chest tube is inserted to evacuate the air and fluid formed in the pleural space and to provide hemodynamic stability. During chest tube placement, subcutaneous tissue layers, muscles and parietal pleura are passed through. This process is a trauma and the affected tissues show an inflammatory reaction to the trauma. The chest tube adheres to the tissue it comes into contact with and may experience mild, moderate and severe pain due to the separation of the adhesion due to pulling during removal. Chest tube removal is described as a severely painful procedure in studies. Analgesics are generally used in the treatment of acute pain during chest tube removal (Wei et al. 2022). However, pain guidelines and studies recommend the use of analgesics with non-pharmacological methods in order to minimize the pain experienced during chest tube removal and to provide adequate analgesia. One of the non-pharmacological methods used in pain management is Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). TENS, an electroanalgesia method, helps to control pain by providing skin stimulation through surface electrodes placed on the skin. While there are studies in the literature on the use of TENS in reducing the pain caused by chest tube removal after different surgical interventions, there are limited studies investigating the effect of TENS on the level of pain during chest tube removal and postoperative analgesic consumption after thoracic surgery. In this context, in this study, it is aimed to determine the effect of TENS application after thoracic surgery on pain level and analgesic requirement during chest tube removal.
VR-PAT During Home Burn Dressings - Multisite
BurnsAcute Pain3 moreThis study will evaluate the effectiveness of smartphone Virtual Reality Pain Alleviation Therapy (VR-PAT) as a pain distraction tool during repeated at-home burn dressing changes among 100 children (age 6-17 years) with a burn injury in comparison to 100 children with a burn injury who do not use the VR-PAT.
Tapentadol Versus Tramadol Analgesia Post Cardiac Surgery
Postoperative PainSurgery11 moreThe aim of this randomized one-blinded study will be to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of two different oral doses of tapentadol and compare it to tramadol (an opioid commonly used to treat post-surgical pain) in cardiac surgery patients
