This study is the second phase of the MAPP Network and is designed to conduct a prospective, observational study of men and women with UCPPS, referred to as the Symptom Patterns Study (SPS), enriched with pre-defined subgroups, with longer follow-up, in order to further investigate clinical and biologic factors associated with worsening and/or improvement of reported urinary and non-urinary symptoms.

Objectives- to find out whether a correlation exists between denudation of urothelium and diagnosic delay in patients with BPS / IC, secondary aim was to search a correlation between impact of symptoms evaluated with ICSI-ICPI and number of comorbid conditions associated with BPS-IC. Patients and Methods- Fifty-seven consecutive patients underwent cystoscopy under anaesthesia to classify those cases suspected of BPS/IC. As for the evaluation of the ICSI-ICPI scores we considered significant relevant values those ≥ 12. Patients underwent cystoscopy with hydrodistension under general (90%) or locoregional anaesthesia. Bladder biopsies were taken, including detrusor muscle, from those areas with the most apparent bladder wall lesions. All biopsies were then fixed in 4% formalin and sent to the Pathologist for examination.

EPIC is a case/control study that seeks to identify the risk factors for interstitial cystitis by comparing the experiences and medical histories of 400 women who recently developed IC with 400 similar people who do not have the disease.

This study aims to better understand the pathways leading to pain in women with two types of pelvic pain condition (endometriosis-associated pain and bladder pain syndrome) and determine whether these pathways can be used to subgroup patients.

For each patient in the study, blood, and pain scores will be collected to look for markers for pain, at the start of treatment and 6 months after surgery of treatment.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate incidence and prevalence rates of the study endpoints (pigmentary maculopathy [PM]/ pigmentary retinopathy [PR]/Any, PM/PR/ pentosan polysulfate sodium [PPS], and PM/PR/Non-PPS) in relation to PPS exposure, and in participants with interstitial cystitis (IC) but not exposed to PPS; changes in visual acuity (VA) over time; participant treatment journey leading to PPS treatment, and potential risk factors associated with the occurrence of PM/PR/PPS.

This is a retrospective study of urine samples stored in the Beaumont BioBank for future research. The urine samples will be drawn from the urine back with patients previously diagnosed with severe interstitial cystitis (IC), mild IC and no IC. Interstitial Cystitis (IC) also known as Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS) is a chronic inflammatory disease. It has an unknown etiology, symptoms which present to varying degrees, as well as an uncertain natural history. Diagnosis of IC is based on symptoms after excluding more common and dangerous pathologies.

The Multidisciplinary Approach to the Study of Chronic Pelvic Pain (MAPP) Research Network has been established to focus on a broader approach to the study of Interstitial Cystitis (IC)/Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS) in men and women, and Chronic Prostatitis (CP)/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS) in men, than previously undertaken. Participants with some form or symptoms of IC or CP are being asked to join the Trans-MAPP Epidemiology and Phenotyping (EP) Study. As with many chronic pain disorders, IC and CP are poorly understood, and treatment is often not helpful. The goal of this study is to better understand how pain is felt in people with IC or CP. The MAPP EP Study is an observational study that will enroll approximately 360 participants from 6 Discovery Sites and 3 Satellite Sites across the U.S. We will ask questions and gather information about the health and life of the participants for research purposes. No study treatment or interventions will be given to participants in MAPP. We hope that this study will lead to improvement in the treatment of IC and CP.
