Routine Staple Line Reinforcement for Minimally Invasive Distal Pancreatectomy
Pancreas NeoplasmStump1 morePostoperative fistula is the major complications of distal pancreatectomies which prohibit patients' recovery. Previous studies have reported controversial results regarding the efficacy of pancreatic stump reinforcement methods. Prior research has commonly included minimally invasive and open cases together. Moreover, stapler and suture were combined in most studies making interpretation difficult. Data has shown that staple line plus reinforcement might potentially decrease the CR-POPF rate of patients who underwent distal pancreatectomies, but well-designed high-quality evidence is lacking. Thus, the investigators design the present study to the question that whether routine staple line plus reinforcement would bring benefit for participants.

Pancreatic Surgery in Elderly Patients
Pancreatic CancerPancreatic cancer is mainly seen among elderly subjects as more than 85 % of all patients are diagnosed after 60 years of age. Pancreatic surgery in the elderly is usually well tolerated, and the postoperative mortality has decreased and today is less than 5 % in high-volume centers. When offering an old patient pancreatic surgery for a malignant disease it is important to evaluate not only the probability that the patient may survive the operation, but also the relevance of an operation in relation to the patient's remnant life expectancy and other treatment options than surgery. This problem has not been addressed in most studies on pancreatic surgery in the elderly, in which the outcome after surgery was the end point. The endpoints of the present study are the post-operative survival and surgical complications after major pancreatic surgery in all patients operated in the study period, and the long-term survival of patients operated for adenocarcinomas. These endpoints were set from the assumption that the postoperative mortality is related to age and comorbidity, while the long-term survival is influenced by the primary disease.
Role of EUS in Detection of Liver Metastasis
Liver MetastasesPancreatic NeoplasmsLiver metastasis may not be detected by CT and MRI due to their small size while they can be detected by EUS. Also, EUS-FNA has a great impact in improving the diagnostic accuracy of EUS. Objectives: To assess the feasibility of EUS in the detection of occult small hepatic focal lesions at the time of primary tumor staging, not seen by CT or MRI.

Identifying the Role of Symptom Outcomes and Biomarkers in Survival in Patients With Metastatic...
Pancreatic CancerThe goal of this clinical research study is to learn about symptoms related to chemotherapy and the disease, in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. Researchers will study the possible reason for these symptoms by drawing blood samples and comparing the test results to the symptoms you experience. The study will also use a special telephone system for measuring the symptoms of participants during and after therapy. Your level of physical activity will also be studied using a pedometer and study diary.
Depression, Cytokines and Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic CancerThe purpose of this study is to measure certain specific chemicals in your blood, produced by the body in response to a stress, such as having pancreatic cancer. These chemicals are called "cytokines" and the researchers doing this study want to look at the role they may play in developing depression.

Bladder CancerCervical Cancer9 moreRATIONALE: Motivational counseling may help prevent pregnant women from smoking again after pregnancy. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying three different types of counseling to see how well they work in preventing smoking relapse after pregnancy in pregnant women who quit smoking during pregnancy.

Breast CancerColorectal Cancer1 moreRATIONALE: Studying samples of tumor tissue from patients with cancer in the laboratory may help doctors identify and learn more about biomarkers related to cancer. PURPOSE: This laboratory study is collecting skin biopsy specimens from patients receiving irinotecan or gemcitabine for advanced solid tumors and using them to study change in DNA due to this treatment.
