Early Versus Delayed Surgery for Gallstone Pancreatitis
Gallstone PancreatitisWhile there exists consensus among surgeons that patients with gallstone pancreatitis should undergo cholecystectomy to prevent recurrence, the precise timing of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for mild to moderate disease remains controversial. We hypothesize that laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed within 48 hours of admission, regardless of resolution of abdominal pain or abnormal laboratory values, will result in a shorter hospital stay.
Trial on the Evaluation of Pylorus-ring in Pancreaticoduodenectomy
Pancreatic CancerBile Duct Cancer3 moreThe purpose of this study is to clarify whether resecting pylorus-ring decreases delayed gastric emptying after pancreaticoduodenectomy and improves postoperative quality of life (QOL).
Evaluation of Pancreatic Tissue Penetration of Meronem® in the Prophylaxis of Septic Complications...
PancreatitisTo measure meropenem pancreatic tissue penetration in subjects with severe pancreatitis requiring surgery between 30 to 60 minutes after a bolus of 1 g IV meropenem given during the induction period of anesthesia.
Videoendoscopic Drainage of Infected Pancreatic Collections
PancreatitisAcute NecrotizingThe VARD (Videoendoscopic Assisted Retroperitoneal Drainage) approach as treatment for necrotizing pancreatitis proposes an alternative to standard complicated open abdomen treatment methods. This treatment involves making a small incision and looking inside the abdomen with a videoendoscope. A videoendoscope is an instrument with a small camera and light on the end. It also has an extension tool that the surgeon can use to clean out any dead and infected tissue in the abdomen. This approach may reveal a treatment opportunity with faster recovery potential and shorter hospitalizations for patients with necrotizing pancreatitis.
Genetic Factors and CP Pregnancy Outcomes
Chronic PancreatitisGenetic Mutation1 moreTo explore the impact of chronic pancreatitis (CP) susceptibility genes on pregnancy outcomes.
An Open-Label Crossover Study to Compare the Relative Bioavailability, Efficacy and Safety of Epanova®...
Severe HypertriglyceridemiaThis is a randomized, open-label crossover study. The primary objective of this study is to compare the relative bioavailability of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA), and the ethyl esters of EPA and DHA in plasma from a single 2 g or 4 g dose of Epanova® or 4 g Lovaza®.
Acute Biliary Pancreatitis - Optimal Time for Cholecystectomy
Acute Biliary PancreatitisIn patients with mild gallstone pancreatitis, early cholecystectomy within 48 hours might reduce the risk of recurrent gallstone-related complications, compared with the more commonly used strategy in our locality of conservative management and delayed cholecystectomy. However, evidence to support early cholecystectomy is poor, and concerns exist about an increased risk of cholecystectomy-related complications with this approach. In this study, we aimed to compare the benefits and harms of early versus delayed cholecystectomy in patients with mild biliary pancreatitis.
Trial of Indomethacin in Chronic Pancreatitis
Chronic PancreatitisThe researchers are trying to find a way to slow down the progression of chronic pancreatitis (CP) and investigate the possibility of the long term treatment of this disease.
Methodist Acute Pancreatitis Protocol
Acute PancreatitisThe overall goal of this ongoing registry study is to optimize initial evaluation and treatment of patients with AP according to recommended guidelines, the Methodist Acute Pancreatitis Protocol (MAPP), which were implemented in January 2015.
Pancreas Resection With and Without Drains
Pancreas TumorPancreatitisThis randomized prospective trial is designed to test the hypothesis that pancreatectomy without routine intraperitoneal drainage does not increase the severity or frequency of complications within 60 days of surgery.
