Using the Canary Breathing System for Panic Disorder Patients
Panic DisorderThe purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of the Canary Breathing System (CBS) in treating the symptoms of panic disorder.
Physical Activity and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in Panic Disorder
Panic DisorderPhysical activity (treadmill) supports the effect of cognitive behavioural therapy in patients with panic disorder with/without agoraphobia
False Safety Behavior Elimination Therapy: A Randomized Study of a Brief Individual Transdiagnostic...
Panic DisorderGeneralized Anxiety Disorder1 moreThe aim of the current study was to test the efficacy of an individually administered, brief (5-session) transdiagnostic treatment for anxiety disorders. The current treatment (called F-SET) focuses chiefly on the elimination of anxiety maintaining behaviors and cognitive strategies (so-called "safety" aids) among individuals suffering from a range of anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD) and panic disorder (PD). We hypothesized that the F-SET protocol would produce better overall outcome relative to a waitlist control.
Internet-based Self-help Treatment for Panic Disorder: Two Ways of Complementary Psychological Support...
Panic DisorderThe aim of this study was to compare two ways of administrating the complementary psychological support (scheduled vs. non-scheduled) in an online self-help program for panic disorder. In order to do so, the investigators studied: a) If there were differences in the intensity and frequency of the symptoms of panic disorder. b) If there were differences in the therapeutic adherence between the subjects receiving both kinds of complementary support. c) If the more time spent by a psychologist in therapeutic interventions produced the best results of therapeutic adherence / symptom improvement. Seventy seven subjects followed the online self-help program for 8 weeks; 27 subjects had the support of a therapist via phone when they required it, 25 subjects had the support of a therapist weekly and 25 subjects were in the waiting list as a control group.
Enhancing Panic and Smoking Reduction Treatment With D-Cycloserine
Nicotine AddictionPanic AttackThe purpose of the current study is to evaluate the efficacy of d-cycloserine in augmenting treatment of smoking cessation for individuals with panic attacks. The investigators hypothesize that individuals receiving DCS (versus those receiving placebo) will evidence greater smoking abstinence rates and decreased panic symptoms after receiving a combined CBT-based treatment for smokers with panic attacks.
Providing Tools for Effective Care and Treatment of Anxiety Disorders
Panic DisorderAgoraphobia2 morePROTECT-AD is a cognitive behavioral treatment study involving highly qualified psychotherapeutic centers at seven German universities. It is our goal to further investigate and optimize existing effective treatments of anxiety disorders. In order to achieve this, the investigators want to investigate the effect of extinction learning in an "intensified" psychological intervention on treatment outcome in adults and children with anxiety disorders. The intensified psychological intervention is characterized by a higher number of exposure trials over a short time period. In the control condition the exposure trials take place in a weekly interval, analog to standard care.
Mechanisms of Treatment Change in Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia
Panic Disorder With AgoraphobiaThe primary goal of the present study is to identify mechanisms of therapeutic change of two theoretically contrasting therapeutic procedures: The first phase consists of comparing the outcome of the capnometry-assisted breathing therapy (BRT) with cognitive restructuring (CT). During the second phase participants of both interventions will undergo in-vivo exposure.
The Use of a FDA Cleared, Drug-free, Breathing System for Anxiety and Panic Disorders in Children...
AnxietyPanic DisorderThis study will test the efficiency of the Freespira Breathing System in youth.
Safety and Efficacy of HB-1 for Panic Disorder
Panic DisorderThe purpose of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of HB-1 versus placebo in male and female adult patients aged 18 to 60 years, inclusive, with Panic Disorder.
Efficacy and Mechanisms of Psychosocial Treatments for Panic Disorder
Panic DisorderThe aim of the present study is to a) determine the comparative efficacy of the brief capnometry-assisted respiratory therapy (CART) and standard cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and b) to determine moderators and mediators. With the data collected from the study, the investigators will test the following hypotheses: (a) CART will be as effective in treating PD/A as CBT, albeit in shorter time, b) patients with greater respiratory dysregulations, especially hyperventilation, at pretreatment will benefit more from CART, whereas patients with greater cognitive dysregulation will benefit more from CBT. CART, but not CBT, will result in reversal of hyperventilation.
