Effects of Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy on Non-ambulant Children With Bilateral Spastic Cerebral Palsy...
Bilateral Cerebral PalsyChildren with spastic bilateral cerebral palsy are late developers. delayed gross and fine motor development require early intervention to improve the child performance and avoid secondary impairments.
Electro Physiological Responses to Kabat Motor Control Re-education on Bell's Palsy: A Randomized...
Facial Nerve PalsyBell's PalsyTo investigate the Effect of Kabat motor control re-education therapy on facial nerve Electro physiological responses and facial muscles function in bell's palsy. BACKGROUND: facial nerve recovery in children could be improved through facilitation of nerve regeneration which can be enhanced through Kabat motor control re-education therapy.
Motivation's Effect on Home Exercise in Children With OBPP
Obstetric ParalysesThe present study examined the effect of motivation on home exercise program and children's functional scores. 33 OBPP children (Narakas Type 2) aged between 0-18 months were divided into two groups. Intervention group was motivated via phone. Both groups were informed about OBPP, performed home exercises and filled exercise diary. Intrinsic Motivation Scale was used for measuring motivation and Gilbert and Raimondi Scoring and Active Movement Scoring were used for evaluating functional improvements at first assessment, 6th week and 12th week. For final comparison, parents were divided into two more groups (highly motivated and motivated group) based on motivation scores.
Silk Protein Microparticle-based Filler for Injection Augmentation
Vocal Cord Paralysis UnilateralDysphonia2 moreThis study will investigate the safety and efficacy of a silk protein microparticle-based filler for vocal fold injection augmentation to treat dysphonia/dysphagia secondary to vocal fold paralysis. Participants will receive one injection and follow-up for a planned period of 12 months.
Effect of Laser Acupuncture Treatment on Chronic Facial Paralysis
Bell PalsyIdiopathic Facial ParalysesInadequate recovery from Bell's palsy is not uncommon and as consequence, physical and social impairment are exist in these patients. The medical options for chronic condition of Bell's palsy are insufficient. Low-level laser therapy has shown a favorable prognosis in the regeneration of peripheral nerves. Moreover, laser acupuncture therapy (LAT) become widely used method to stimulate acupuncture points, but its efficacy as treatment method for Bell's palsy and during the chronic stage is unclear.
Magic Camp for Children With Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral PalsyThe proposed study will test the feasibility and effectiveness of a "Magic Camp" in children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy (CP). A single group pretest-posttest design (n=10) will be used to investigate the immediate (2 weeks) and longer-term effect (3 months) of a "Magic Camp" on improving upper limb motor function and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in children with hemiplegic CP.
The Effect of Mirror Therapy on Cerebral Re-organization, Functional Motor Skills, and Quality of...
Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebral PalsyThe purpose of this study is to investigate brain reorganization, functional motor development, level of daily living activity and quality of life of upper extremity mirror therapy in children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Several studies have reported increased use of the affected arm following rearrangement of cerebral re-organization with mirror therapy. The investigator's study is the first of its kind and was planned to evaluate the effectiveness of upper extremity mirror therapy in cerebral reorganization and functional motor skills in children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Hypothesis of this study is that mirror therapy improves brain re-organisation, functional motor skills and daily living activities in unilateral spastic CP.
Physical and Social Benefits of Multi-Player Interactive Computer Play Games in Youth With Cerebral...
Cerebral PalsyAs children with cerebral palsy (CP) become teenagers, they experience a decrease in their physical function and mobility. Decreased mobility leads to increased social isolation for the teens and impacts negatively on their quality of life. This loss of function is multifactorial, but poor physical fitness and muscle weakness secondary to disuse are significant contributors. Exercise video games are a novel approach to engage youth in physical exercise and social interaction with their peers. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of an exercise video gaming intervention to improve physical fitness and social wellbeing. Our over-arching research questions are whether "exergames" can provide health benefits (improved physical fitness) and improved social wellbeing in youth with CP.
Study of a New Technique to Improve the Symptoms of Orofacial Discomfort in Patients With Peripheral...
Peripheral Nerve Facial Nerve ParalysisFacial Nerve Diseases1 moreThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Neuro Occlusal Rehabilitation (RNO) in patients with peripheral facial palsy (PFP) disease, noting the decrease in symptoms of masticatory dysfunction. According to Carvalho (2009) patients with PFP have chronic unilateral masticatory preference. Santos et al. (2009) in the same year noted that these conditions can lead to problems with temporomandibular disorder. Hypothesis- known that performing occlusal adjustment in these patients with chronic PFP, ensuring a maximum of dental contacts and a final stop of the masticatory cycle stable, providing a balanced occlusion. dental cleaning was performed in two groups for the blind study visual analog scale -To assess the quality of the oral functions of these patients, the investigators applied the visual analog scale(VAS) and statistically evaluated the degree of satisfaction regarding the functions of oro facial in relation to mastication and temporomandibular dysfunction. gnathostatic models were made in the treatment group in the first and last query. occlusal adjustment in treatment group. In the group treated occlusal adjustment was made in the teeth and applied a new (VAS) before and after treatment. The RNO, is defined as a part of medicine that operates in stomatology occlusal plane as a guide to a harmonious development of the face, chewing facilitating bilateral and alternating. (Planas, 1997). It works through selective grinding on the occlusal platform, providing an increased number of dental contacts.
Spread And Effectiveness Of Botulinum Neurotoxin A In Spastic Equinus In Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy and Botulinum ToxinObjectives. To study the short-term neurophysiological and clinical outcome of botulinum toxin type A(BoNT-A), injected at standard doses, and assess toxin spread to neighboring uninjected muscles in children with cerebral palsy. Subjects and methods. The investigators studied 18 ambulatory children with dynamic equinus foot deformity (mean age 6.1 years). The gastrocnemius muscle on the affected side was injected with BoNT-A (Dysport, range from 8.9-19.4 U/kg). As the primary neurophysiological outcome measure, compound muscle action potential (CMAP) areas were assessed in the lateral gastrocnemius (LG) and tibialis anterior(TA) muscles on the treated and untreated side before BoNT-A injections (T0), and on days 10 (T10), and 30 (T30) after injections. Clinical scales were assessed and video gait was analyzed at all three time points. Results. In all patients, CMAP areas recorded from the LG and TA muscles on the treated side decreased significantly from pre-injection values at T10 (p<0.05) and T30 (p<0.002). Assessment at both time points after injections also showed that ankle spasticity had diminished (p<0.05), equinus foot excursion increased (p<0.05), and functional gait improved (p<0.05). Conclusion. Although BoNT-A injected at standard doses improves gait in children with spastic equinus foot the toxin spreads to uninjected leg muscles. BoNT-A treatment for cerebral palsy therefore needs individualizing according to the child's clinical features.
