Anaplastic Thyroid CancerInsular Thyroid Cancer84 moreThis phase I trial is studying the side effects of gefitinib in treating patients with metastatic or unresectable head and neck cancer or non-small cell lung cancer. Gefitinib may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for their growth

Adaptive Radiotherapy for Head and Neck Cancer
Head and Neck CancerParanasal Sinus Cancer5 moreThe purpose of this study is to demonstrate that adaptive radiotherapy (ART) in head and neck cancer patients are comparable to historical controls in head and neck patients undergoing standard intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) without ART.

A Clinical Trial of Endoscopic Surgery Followed by Chemotherapy and Proton Radiation for the Treatment...
Paranasal Sinus CancerNasal Cavity Tumor1 moreThis study is being done to test a new treatment plan for large tumors in the sinus or nasal cavity that will include endoscopic surgery plus chemotherapy and proton-beam radiation therapy.

Olfactory Training in Improving Sense of Smell After Radiation Therapy in Patients With Paranasal...
Stage 0 Nasopharyngeal CarcinomaStage 0 Paranasal Sinus Cancer16 moreThis randomized phase I trial studies how well olfactory training works in improving sense of smell after radiation therapy in patients with paranasal sinus or nasopharyngeal cancer. Olfactory training may improve smell function after radiation therapy in patients with paranasal sinus or nasopharyngeal cancer.

Selenomethionine in Reducing Mucositis in Patients With Locally Advanced Head and Neck Cancer Who...
Chemotherapeutic Agent ToxicityMucositis14 moreThis randomized phase II trial is studying how well selenomethionine (SLM) works in reducing mucositis in patients with locally advanced head and neck cancer who are receiving cisplatin and radiation therapy. SLM may help prevent or reduce mucositis, or mouth sores, in patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It is not yet known whether SLM is more effective than a placebo in reducing mucositis

Entolimod in Treating Patients With Stage III-IV Squamous Cell Head and Neck Cancer Receiving Cisplatin...
MucositisRecurrent Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Hypopharynx36 moreThis phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of entolimod in treating patients with stage III-IV or recurrent head and neck cancer. Biological therapies, such as entolimod, may stimulate the immune system in different ways and stop tumor cells from growing. Entolimod may also prevent side effects caused by chemotherapy with cisplatin and radiation therapy. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving entolimod together with cisplatin and radiation therapy may kill more tumor cells

Chemoradiotherapy Followed by Surgery for Advanced Paranasal Sinus Cancer
Paranasal Sinus NeoplasmsThe purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy pre-operatively in patients with advanced paranasal sinus cancer. The main objectives of this study are: 1) to measure the rate of complete response to preoperative chemoradiation and 2) to study the efficacy of combining preoperative chemoradiation and surgery in terms of local control of the cancer two years post treatment.

Phase 1b Food Based Modulation of Biomarkers in Human Tissues at High-Risk for Oral Cancer.
Metastatic Squamous Neck Cancer With Occult Primary Squamous Cell CarcinomaSalivary Gland Squamous Cell Carcinoma56 moreThis randomized phase I/II trial studies the side effects and best way to give lyophilized black raspberries in preventing oral cancer in high-risk patients previously diagnosed with stage I-IV or in situ head and neck cancer. Chemoprevention is the use of certain drugs to keep cancer from forming. The use of lyophilized black raspberries may prevent oral cancer. Studying samples of oral cavity scrapings, blood, urine, and saliva in the laboratory from patients receiving lyophilized black raspberries may help doctors learn more about changes that occur in DNA and the effect of lyophilized back raspberries on biomarkers.

Bevacizumab in Reducing CNS Side Effects in Patients Who Have Undergone Radiation Therapy to the...
Adult Anaplastic AstrocytomaAdult Anaplastic Ependymoma85 moreBevacizumab may reduce CNS side effects caused by radiation therapy. This randomized phase II trial is studying how well bevacizumab works in reducing CNS side effects in patients who have undergone radiation therapy to the brain for primary brain tumor, meningioma, or head and neck cancer.

MucositisRecurrent Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Hypopharynx30 moreThe purpose of this study is to find out what effects (good and bad) SAMITAL (Vaccinium myrtillus extract/Macleaya cordata alkaloids/Echinacea angustifolia extract granules) has on the management of mucositis (inflammation and ulceration that occurs in the mouth) brought on by chemotherapy and radiation therapy for squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck
