Telehealth Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression in Parkinson's Disease (PD)
DepressionParkinson's DiseaseWhen Veterans with Parkinson's disease (PD) suffer from depression, they are more likely to experience disease complications, interpersonal difficulties with caregivers, and poorer quality of life. Unfortunately, depression in Veterans with PD is inadequately treated at the current time. Treatment for depressed Veterans with PD will require the elimination of geographical barriers to care and approaches that address the unique aspects of PD. The proposed study will be the first to explore a novel and innovative, PD-informed psychotherapy package for depressed Veterans with PD and their Caregivers, delivered through video-to-home telehealth. If the results of this proposal are promising, a much needed treatment can be made available to Veterans with PD and their Caregivers across the country, regardless of geographical location.
Two Resistance Training Protocols to Reduce the Risk of Falls in Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's DiseaseAccidental FallsParkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by a multitude of symptoms. Impairments in balance, muscle deficits and increased risk of falls are commonly experienced in PD.The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of two different resistance training programs on improving balance and muscular strength to thereby reduce the risk of falls in those with PD. This study will randomize individuals to one of two groups, a power training group, or a strength training group. Both interventional groups will participate in 12 weeks of resistance training, two times per week for an hour each exercise session.
Asymmetric Subthalamic Deep Brain Stimulation for Axial Motor Dysfunction in Parkinson's Disease...
Parkinson DiseaseThis single-center, randomized, quadruple-blinded, double-crossover comparative efficacy trial will study the effects of unilateral 50% voltage reduction in axial motor dysfunction for patients with Parkinson's disease that develop treatment-resistant postural stability gait dysfunction after bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation surgery.

Motor OFF Episodes Associated With Parkinson's DiseaseA study of an investigational drug to see how it affects the people with Parkinson's Disease complicated by motor fluctuations ("OFF" Episodes) compared to an approved drug used to treat people with Parkinson's Disease complicated by motor fluctuations ("OFF" Episodes)
Study to Evaluate the Effect of Lixisenatide in Patient With Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson DiseaseThe main objective of the study is to evaluate the effect of lixisenatide (20 μg/d), versus placebo, administered as add-on therapy with the usual antiparkinsonian treatment, on the progression of motor disability in patients with early PD in order to assess its potential "disease-modifying" effect.
A Clinical Study of IRL790 in Patients With Parkinson's Disease Experiencing Levodopa Induced Dyskinesia...
Parkinson DiseaseThis is a Phase 1b study investigating the safety and tolerability of IRl790 as adjunct therapy in patients with Parkinson disease. IRL790/placebo is taken for 28 days.
Biofeedback Rehabilitation in Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson DiseaseBackground: In this study, a new biofeedback system for balance and gait rehabilitation (Gamepad) was developed. The system, based on wearable inertial sensors, provides users with real-time visual and acoustic feedback about their movement during functional tasks. Gamepad was applied on subjects with Parkinson's disease (PD) in a pilot randomized controlled trial to investigate its feasibility and efficacy versus conventional physiotherapy. The investigators hypothesized that Gamepad system can be easily applied in clinical settings and that biofeedback training with Gamepad provides larger improvements of balance and gait in PD subjects, respect to conventional physiotherapy. Methods: Forty-two PD patients underwent a 20-session training for balance and gait (45 minutes per session, 3 sessions per week). Participants were randomized into Gamepad Group (biofeedback rehabilitation with Gamepad system), and Control Group (conventional physiotherapy). Clinical and instrumental assessments were performed by a blind examiner pre-, post-intervention and at 1-month follow-up.
The Effect of a Motor-cognitive Rehabilitation on Attention in Parkinsonian Patients
Parkinson's DiseaseIn this study the Investigators explore two questions: if the attentive reaction times differs in parkinsonian patients from health controls and if an intensive, focused and aerobic rehabilitation program (Multidisciplinary Intensive Rehabilitation Treatment - MIRT) tailored mainly for motor problems, could have a specific positive effect on multiple choices Reaction Times (RTs) as an indirect marker for an effect on attentional-executive frontal circuits. The hypothesis is that the MIRT could have a positive effect on the top-down control mechanisms, since the continuous feedback given by physiotherapist during exercises and the use of cues and devices (such as treadmill plus and stabilometric platform), stimulate the selective attention processes that enable goal-directed, internally-driven decision, helping the patients to overcome externally-driven decision based on stimulus salience and novelty
Effects of Virtual Reality Based Training on Posture Stability in Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's DiseaseThe present study is to examine the effects of a virtual reality based balance training using the Kinect sensor on postural stability and functional balance in individuals with Parkinson's disease.
Effects of Droxidopa When Measuring Gait Speed, Kyphosis, and Functional Reach in Parkinson's Disease...
Parkinson's DiseaseThe purpose of this study is to determine if droxidopa reduces fall risk by improving gait speed, kyphosis, and functional reach in individuals with Parkinson's disease.
