Integrated Parkinson Care Networks: Assessment of Economics and Socials Barriers

Parkinson Disease

According to the latest public health report in France, Parkinson's disease (PD) affects around 160,000 patients. It is therefore essential to estimate the overall consumption of medical and non-medical resources by patients with PD in order to characterize the share of medical and non-medical care reimbursed by health insurance, the share of medical and non-medical care not reimbursed. by health insurance, as well as the share of formal and informal care in order to identify potential economic barriers to an optimal care path for patients with PD. It is also necessary to have information on the socio-economic characteristics and the place of residence of the resident in order to estimate the impact of these determinants on an optimal course of care.

Validation of the Turkish Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire

Parkinson DiseaseDysphagia

Purpose of the study is the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Swallowing Disturbance Questionnaire (SDQ-T), so that it would be used as an assessment tool for Turkish Parkinson Disease's (PD) patients. Despite being translated and validated in many languages, there is no validated Turkish version of SDQ to measure the severity of dysphagia in PD.

Evaluation of the Containment Impact Linked to the Covid-19 Pandemic in a Population of Parkinson...

Parkinson DiseaseCOVID

The consequences of COVID-19 in these already fragile patients should be evaluated. It will be important to appreciate the confinement consequences imposed on the patient on the course and impact of the disease. These consequences can be assessed by the end of confinement and 6 months after the latter is lifted.

Comparison of Balance, Activity-specific Balance Confidence and Quality of Life in Parkinson's Patients...

Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's disease is characterized by cardinal motor signs and motor freezing, gait, posture and balance disorder. About 80% of the causes of falls in Parkinson's patients are due to postural instability and motor freezing, and patients' quality of life is significantly affected. Loss of balance and falls, which are frequently experienced in Parkinson's patients, cause individuals to feel insecure during activities. It is thought that the quality of life of PD patients whose movements are restricted due to the fear of falling may also be negatively affected. The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio is a marker of peripheral inflammation. The relationship of peripheral inflammation to balance, activity-specific balance confidence, and quality of life in individuals is unclear. The aim of this study was to compare balance, activity-specific balance confidence, quality of life, and the relationship between neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio in Parkinson's patients with and without freezing.

Evolution of RBD in PD

REM Sleep Behavior DisorderParkinson's Disease

About 60% of Parkinson's Disease (PD) patients have REM sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD), a parasomnia characterized by partial or complete loss of REM sleep muscle atonia and dream-enacting behaviors, usually associated to vivid dreams. The REM Sleep without atonia is the polysomnographic hallmark of RBD, and its quantification is necessary for the diagnosis. RBD in PD is believed to be a marker of a more widespread degenerative process and a marker of malignant phenotype. Therefore, PD patients with RBD (PD-RBD) are more severely impaired in both motor and non-motor domains, compared to those without RBD, with an increased risk of dementia. However, little is know about the relationship between the evolution of RBD, clinic and video-polysomnographic, and the progression of PD. Besides, an improvement of RBD symptoms is anecdotally reported in PD patients over time. Longitudinal evaluation of RBD in PD, assessed by questionnaires, led to controversial results, but so far, no longitudinal vPSG study has been performed in PD-RBD population. Thus, the main objective of this study is to longitudinally evaluate clinical and video-polysomnographic features of RBD, including measure of REM Sleep without atonia, in patients with PD-RBD, after three years from the diagnosis of RBD, in order to ascertain whether RBD features remain stable over time. The possible remission of RBD with the progression of PD would question indeed its reliability as prognostic bio-marker.

Detecting Parkinson's Disease Through Speech Analysis

Parkinson DiseaseREM Sleep Behavior Disorder

Speech is an important indicator of motor function and movement coordination and can be extremely sensitive to involvement in the course of neurologic diseases. The aim of this project is to discover for the first time using simple speech recording and high end pattern analysis preclinical stages of disabling central nervous system disorders including Parkinson's disease and other alpha-synucleinopathies in "at high risk" patients with REM sleep behavior disorder and thus provide one essential prerequisite for trials on REM sleep behavior disorder with preventive therapy.

Study to Determine Mutations in the Gaucher Gene in Patients With Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease...

Parkinson DiseaseIdiopathic Parkinson Disease

The genotype-phenotype correlation in patients with Parkinson's disease with specific mutations in the glucocerebrosidase gene (Gaucher gene) is known from own clinical experiences as well as from case reports in the literature. The epidemiological study will determine the frequency of heterozygous mutations in the glucocerebrosidase gene and correlate to the clinical onset and development by measuring and documenting severity of symptoms (e.g. cognitive deficits, L-dopa responsiveness, depression) in clinically well-characterized Parkinson's patients.
