Masotherapy With Neural Tension in Patients With Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson DiseaseThe objective of this study is to assess if the masotherapy with neural tension is more effective than non-neural tension to improve and reduce tremor in patients with Parkinson's disease. The project will be carried out in clinics, where both data collection, assessments and scales will be carried out, as well as the plan and intervention in which the neural tension massage therapy of the radial nerve will be applied to the first intervention group; and massage therapy without neural tension in the second group.
A Home Program Using Multimodal Sensory Feedback for People With Parkinson Disease
Parkinson DiseasePeople with Parkinson Disease (PWPD) have significant problems with velocity, safety and dual tasking during walking that may be secondary to poor automaticity. Sensory functions, especially visual dependence and proprioceptive integration are critical for efficient walking and are often impaired. This home program compares the use of multimodal sensory feedback during stepping and balance exercises in PWPD to a group without the sensory feedback performing the same basic exercises.

Parkinson DiseaseThe purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Nordic pole walking exercise on walking function, movement and non-movement Parkinson-related symptoms, and certain exercise-related chemical indicators (bio-markers) in people with Parkinson's disease. This study will examine both the immediate and long-term effects of Nordic walking (NW) exercise on walking function, PD symptoms and exercise bio-markers after a supervised and individually progressed 6-week NW exercise training period and after a 3-month independent NW exercise phase. NW, as a task- specific exercise with higher energy demands than regular walking, has good practicality for independent walking exercise once the training program is completed. Therefore, this study will also examine independent NW exercise engagement after a supervised training program to assess feasibility and sustainability of this mode of task-specific aerobic exercise.

Intravenous Plasma Treatment for Parkinson's Disease
Idiopathic Parkinson DiseaseThis study will do a preliminary evaluation of a possible treatment for mild-to-moderate Parkinson's disease. Patients will be treated with either transfusions of plasma from young donors. or with placebo transfusions. In the following several months, Parkinson's symptoms will be monitored and compared for the two groups.
Effect of Noninvasive Brain Stimulation on Hypokinetic Dysarthria in Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson DiseaseHypokinetic dysarthria (HD) is common in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients and responds only partially to pharmacotherapy and surgery. The investigators will explore long-term effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) applied over right superior temporal gyrus, brain area known to be engaged in the feedback control of voiced speech. The project results will allow for the identification of potential therapeutic effects of rTMS as a tool that could contribute to the speech therapy of HD in PD patients. The results will also enhance our understanding of brain mechanisms underlying specific long-term effects of rTMS.
Role of Zonisamide in Advanced Parkinson's Disease (PD) in Egyptian Population: Pilot Study
Parkinson DiseaseZonisamide (ZNS) (1,2-Benzisoxazole-3-methanesulfonamide) is an anti-epileptic drug. In three double blinded placebo controlled studies, ZNS- as an adjunctive treatment- showed beneficial effects on motor symptoms of PD with a low incidence of adverse events. As a result 25 mg daily of ZNS was approved in 2009 in Japan as an adjunctive treatment in PD patients whose condition responded insufficiently to Levodopa treatment. Most observations of a beneficial effect of ZNS have been in Japanese people, and the antiparkinsonian mechanism of action is unclear. So, ZNS is a promising but still investigational drug to treat PD and more studies are warranted. this study will investigate the efficacy and tolerability of Zonisamide as an adjunctive treatment in Egyptian patients with advanced PD, including motor fluctuations, levodopa induced dyskinesia and existing nonmotor symptoms. Additionally it investigates its effects on quality of life of PD patients.

Effects of Gait Rehabilitation With Dual Task in Patients With Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson DiseaseIn functional environments, dual-tasks (DT) are common and require a correct motor and cognitive performance to be carried out successfully. In people with neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease (PD), to walk with a secondary task affects gait. The inclusion of DT to the assessment and physical rehabilitation of patients allows to simulate day-to-day contexts in a controlled and safe environment and consequently, extrapolate more easily the advances of rehabilitation to daily life. This project studied the effects of a gait rehabilitation program with dual tasks (DUALGAIT) in patients with Parkinson's disease and compared the results with a control active group of patients who performed a general physical rehabilitation program (without dual-task and only motor exercise practice). The investigator's hypothesis is that gait training under dual conditions has a greater effect than traditional motor physiotherapy programs on the biomechanics of parkinsonian gait. The present study is a randomized controlled clinical trial, with evaluators blind to the allocation of participants in the different groups.
