Interaction Between Immune Cells and Bacteria Associated With Periodontitis

Periodontal DiseasesPeriodontitis11 more

This study evaluates the interaction between host immune cells and bacteria associated with periodontitis. It comprises biological material from donors with and without periodontal disease. Specifically, we collect a spit and blood sample to conduct in vitro stimulations and measurements of selected parameters related to periodontitis to clarify obscure areas in the immunologic pathogenesis of this disease.

Diagnosis of Periodontal Disease Using Genetic Marker in Saliva

Chronic Periodontitis

The purpose of the present study is to identify the novel periodontal disease biomarkers using differentially expressed microRNA in the saliva. The severity of chronic periodontal diseases and the time of pre- and post-treatment are major classification criteria. The obtained data will secure the foundation for the development of a new non-invasive diagnostic methods for early diagnosis & prognosis prediction of periodontal disease.

Periodontal Disease and P. Gingivalis in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid ArthritisOsteoarthritis1 more

Periodontitis (PD) has been postulated to be a risk factor for the onset and progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Recent reports suggest that infection with Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), a major oral pathogen in PD, could play a pivotal role in the development RA. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship of PD and P. gingivalis infection with the risk and severity of RA.

Prevalence of Periodontal Diseases in IBD

Inflammatory Bowel DiseasesPeriodontal Diseases

Periodontal diseases are highly prevalent inflammatory diseases. It is now well known that they are correlated with numerous systemic diseases as : diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, metabolic syndrome or rheumatoid arthritis. Recently, periodontal diseases have been correlated with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). IBD include two types, Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis. It could be a significant risk factor for the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. These diseases present common features : a high prevalence worldwide, multifactorial pathogenies with common mechanisms. To date, no study has linked activity of IBD and periodontal diseases. The authors hypotheses that the prevalence of periodontal diseases could be increased in patient presenting an active IBD

Possible Role of Gingival Crevicular Fluid Levels of Chemerin and Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 as...

Periodontal Disease (Diagnosis)Diabetes Mellitus1 more

The current study aims to spot the light on the possible role of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) level of Chemerin and FGF21 to study their potential role as biomarkers of periodontal disease and to understand their role in the link between periodontitis and diabetes . The study will be conducted on three groups; group (A) include fifteen controlled T2 DM patients suffering from periodontitis, group (B) include fifteen patients suffering from periodontitis alone, and group C) include fifteen periodontally and medically healthy individuals. GCF samples will be collected from all participants for assessment of Chemerin and FGF 21. Samples will be analysed using ELISA technique.

Use of Pain Medication Following Periodontal Procedures

Periodontal DiseasesPain

This study had the following aims: i. to determine the relationship between anticipated pain and actual pain experienced following periodontal surgery; and ii. determine the factors that predict the amount of pain and the amount of pain medication use following periodontal surgery. It was hypothesized that experienced pain will be significantly less than anticipated pain. It was also hypothesized that the following factors will affect pain experienced: sex, type of surgery, nervousness, anticipated pain, sedation, age, smoking status, supplement use and pain pill usage. It was hypothesized that the following factors will affect pain pill usage: sex, type of surgery, nervousness, anticipated pain, sedation, age, smoking status, supplement use, and actual pain.
