Cardioembolic StrokeAtrial Fibrillation

To investigate the efficacy and safety of hirudin plus aspirin therapy compared with warfarin in the secondary prevention of cardioembolic stroke due to nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.

Perioperative Anticoagulant Use for Surgery Evaluation Study

Atrial Fibrillation

The aim of the Perioperative Anticoagulant Use for Surgery Evaluation (PAUSE) Study, is to establish a safe, standardized protocol for the perioperative management of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who are receiving a novel oral anticoagulant (DOAC) drug, either dabigatran, rivaroxaban or apixaban, and require an elective surgery/procedure.

Sensing Atrial High Rate Episodes With Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillators Trial (The SENSE...

Atrial Fibrillation

The primary aim of the "Sensing Atrial High Rate Episodes with DX System in Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators Trial" (SENSE Trial) is to assess the efficacy of a implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) lead with dedicated atrial sensing dipoles in detecting atrial high rate episodes. The study hypothesis is that an ICD system with a lead with dedicated atrial sensing dipoles will have a diagnostic yield comparable to that of a standard dual chamber ICD system and superior to that of a standard single chamber ICD system.

The Influence of Preoperative Warfarin Medication on Thromboelastography and Blood Transfusion

Atrial Fibrillation

Warfarin therapy is usually monitored using the international normalized ratio (INR), and prolonged INR means coagulation impairment that can leads elevating transfusion requirement after operation. This study was designed to assess the relationships with warfarin and TEG values related to transfusion amount, to set up blood transfusion strategy in patients on atrial fibrillation undergoing cardiac surgery.

Investigation on Appropriate Duration of Dabigatran Use After Catheter Ablation for Paroxysmal Atrial...

Atrial FibrillationThromboembolism

The purpose of this study is to investigate the appropriate duration of dabigatran use after radiofrequency catheter ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in patients with low thromboembolic risk. According to the most recent guideline, anticoagulation is recommended to continue at least 2 months after the procedure. However bleeding risk with anticoagulant is also problematic. Post-procedural thrombosis is considered due to acute inflammation or char formation at the site of ablation, and these reaction occurs mostly within 1 month after the procedure. Also, the risk of thromboembolism is low in patients with CHA2DS2-VASc score less than 1. The investigators hypothesized that dabigatran use for the first 1 month after the RFCA for patients with paroxysmal AF and low thromboembolic risk would be sufficient for efficacy and safety compared to conventional dabigatran use for 2 months.

Subclinical Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial Fibrillation

Postoperative atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter (POAF) is the most common complication after cardiac surgery requiring intervention or prolonged hospital stay. POAF is associated with higher mortality and higher risk of thromboembolic events. However, It is yet unknown whether a now event of postoperative atrial fibrillation is an indication of a chronic arrhythmic disease - a tendency towards developing recurrent atrial fibrillation or merely a response to the stress of surgery with not recurrence. This distinction is critical to determine the appropriate therapy. Since recurred events of atrial fibrillation (Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation) are associated with long term risk for stroke and thromboembolic evens patients with PAF are treated with long term anticoagulation. Missing the long term recurrence of arrhythmia may result in under-treatment and pose a significant risk of stroke. Bio-Monitor is a subcutaneous implanted device that automatically detects arrhythmias and stores electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings. It will enable the detection of atrial fibrillation over a period of years and allow correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment. The purpose of the study is to study the long term behavior of POAF, determine the likelihood of developing paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in patients with POAF and to define the risk factors for this eventuality

Impact of an Atrial Fibrillation Decision Support Tool (AFDST) on Thromboprophylaxis for Atrial...

Atrial FibrillationAtrial Flutter

Study objective was to improve decision-making and thromboprophylaxis for patients with Atrial Fibrillation (AF) by developing and implementing a computerized decision support tool for individual patient-level decision-making about oral anticoagulant therapy. To accomplish these goals, the investigators studied the incremental impact of adding a quality-improvement (QI) intervention to an educational package (for practice staff and clinicians) using a computerized aid, the Atrial Fibrillation Decision Support Tool (AFDST) for individual patient-level decision-making about oral anticoagulant therapy in patients with non-valvular AF. The decision support tool incorporates individual patients' risk factor profiles for ischemic stroke and bleeding and provides a recommendation for treatment based upon the projected quality-adjusted life expectancy gained or lost with the addition of either oral anticoagulant therapy or aspirin compared with no thromboprophylaxis.

Timing of Direct Current Cardioversion (DCC) in Patients Undergoing Ablation of Persistent/Permanent...

Atrial Fibrillation

The purpose of this study is to compare which strategy is superior in patients with persistent/permanent atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing ablation, direct current cardioversion (DCC) prior to empirical pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) ; or pulmonary vein isolation (PVI)ablation in atrial fibrillation then Direct current cardioversion (DCC) if the patient remains in atrial fibrillation.

Xarelto for Prevention of Stroke in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation in Asia

Atrial Fibrillation

This is an international observational study in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation who are prescribed rivaroxaban under routine treatment conditions to prevent stroke or non-central nervous system systemic embolism.

Prevention of Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation

Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation

The primary aim of this study is to determine the safest and most effective therapeutic strategy to decrease the incidence of postoperative atrial fibrillation following cardiac surgery in an era with shorter ICU and hospital length of stay. A secondary goal is to evaluate the length of hospital stay associated with each treatment strategy.
