Atrial FibrillationThe main objective of this pilot study is to investigate the protein / peptide plasma profiles before and after treatment with a direct anti-Xa (activated Factor 10) in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation to better understand the mechanisms of action of these molecules and perform exploratory analyses concerning proteins whose concentrations change after starting treatment.
Risk Profile for Atrial Fibrillation
Atrial FibrillationThe objective of this study is to assess the risk profile in patients with atrial fibrillation, which represents the degree of changes (remodeling) in the atrial tissue and which can help to predict in which patients rhythm control will be successful. This risk profile will consist of a combination of underlying (heart) disease and risk factors, as measured with use of parameters obtained with echocardiography, circulating biomarkers and other relevant clinical data. Ultimately this risk profile can be used to guide type of (rhythm) control therapy in individual patients with atrial fibrillation.

Anticoagulant AntagonistsVitamin K and Other Coagulants Causing Adverse Effects in Therapeutic Use2 moreSince decades, oral anticoagulation (OAC) with vitamin K antagonists (VKA) is an established therapy for both prevention and treatment of thromboembolism in daily clinical routine. Increasing life-expectancy, the demographic change and novel oral anticoagulants lead to an increasing complexity of medical therapy. However, data on quality and management of VKA therapy with phenprocoumon in current medical care are limited. Our aim was to investigate the quality of OAC with VKA in current health care and to evaluate the potential for improvements. The investigator-initiated thrombEVAL study program comprises two cohorts of patients treated with vitamin K antagonists for oral anticoagulation therapy in real-life settings: a multicentre cohort of patients in regular medical care and a multi-local, single centre cohort of patients in a telemedicine-based coagulation service. The study program is expected to enrol a total number of approximately 2,000 to 2,500 patients. Both cohorts build on a detailed clinical assessment of participants and anticoagulation therapy at study enrolment. Subsequently active and passive follow-up investigations are carried out to document and validate complications of the treatment. Primary short-term outcome is the distribution of time in therapeutic range; the primary long-term outcome comprises the composite of stroke, systemic embolism, myocardial infarction, major and clinically-relevant bleeding and death.

Prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) rises with age. Subjects have often symptoms like palpitation and discomfort but especially in elderly population there's significant quantity of persons who don't feel any symptoms and fail to seek for medical care for stroke prevention. The main objectives in this study are to find out the prevalence of AF in the elderly population of Lieto, to assess the feasibility and reability of patient education on feeling one's pulse irregularity and the affect to the quality of life of the participating subjects and monitoring the possible increased burden to the public health care system. The study contains two office visits with specified learning session and long-term phone-call follow-up.

To determine whether short run of atrial fibrillation (< 30s ) or the presence of many supraventricular extrasystoles detected on Holter recording, is associated with risk of re-stroke in a consecutive population of patients with stroke or TIA . To test whether a 7-day Loop Recording (R -test) detects more patients with atrial fibrillation than 2 days of Holter recording in a consecutive population of patients with stroke or TIA.

The hypothesis is that this new medical device prototype is non-inferior to traditional Holter monitoring for capturing ECG waveforms that can be visually assessed for atrial and ventricular arrhythmias as well as disorders of cardiac impulse formation and/or conduction.

Atrial FibrillationThis is an observational, prospective, non-randomized, multicenter study with the following objectives: (1) to compile real-world clinical outcomes data for WATCHMAN Left Atrial Appendage Closure Technology in patients who are implanted with the WATCHMAN device in a commercial clinical setting and (2) to collect health care usage data that may be needed for reimbursement of WATCHMAN technology in certain countries.
