Study of Retigabine Immediate Release as Adjunctive Therapy to Specified Monotherapy Antiepileptic...

Epilepsy

The purpose of this Phase III study is to evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability and health outcomes of retigabine Immediate Release (IR) as adjunctive therapy to each of the following monotherapy Antiepileptic Drug (AED) treatments: carbamazepine/oxcarbazepine, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, or valproic acid in adult subjects with partial-onset seizures (POS) using a flexible dosing regimen.

Epilepsy

The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of eslicarbazepine acetate (BIA 2-093) as monotherapy for patients with newly diagnosed partial-onset seizures.

Brivaracetam Efficacy and Safety Study in Subjects With Partial Onset Seizures

Epilepsy

This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of brivaracetam at doses of 100 and 200mg/day compared to placebo as adjunctive treatment in adult focal epilepsy subjects with partial onset seizures not fully controlled despite current treatment with 1 or 2 concomitant antiepileptic drugs.

Study Comparing Magnetic Seizure Therapy (MST) to Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) for Depression...

DepressionMajor Depressive Episode1 more

To evaluate the feasibility, tolerability and efficacy of Magnetic Seizure Therapy (MST) in elderly patients with a major depressive episode, who are randomly assigned to receive an acute course of MST or ECT. The investigators hypothesize: MST and ECT will have similar antidepressant efficacy MST will have less post-treatment amnesia than ECT as reflected in a primary measures of anterograde and retrograde amnesia following the acute treatment phase. At follow up, MST will show a lesser degree of persisting deficit in measures of retrograde amnesia than ECT.

Ketogenic Diet for Refractory Status Epilepticus

Status EpilepticusSeizure3 more

This research is being done to observe the safety, tolerability, side effects, and effectiveness of the ketogenic diet in people with continuous seizures (status epilepticus) being treated in a neurointensive care unit.

Safety and Efficacy of Lacosamide as Additional Therapy in Patients Suffering From Epileptic Tonic-Clonic...

Epilepsy

Assessment of long-term safety and efficacy of oral lacosamide (LCM) as an adjunctive therapy for uncontrolled primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (PGTCS) in subjects >= 4 years of age with idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE). This study will enroll subjects from the LCM SP0982 [NCT02408523] study.

Intravenous Lacosamide Compared With Fosphenytoin in the Treatment of Patients With Frequent Nonconvulsive...

Nonconvulsive Seizures

This a phase 2 study comparing the efficacy of intravenous (IV) lacosamide (LCM) with IV fosphenytoin (fPHT) in controlling frequent nonconvulsive seizures (NCSs), the Adverse Events profile of LCM compared with fPHT when used to treat frequent NCSs, and length of stay in an intensive care unit for subjects treated with LCM versus subjects treated with fPHT. The trial will include a preacute-treatment period, an acute-treatment period, a postacute-treatment period, and a long-term follow-up period.

Magnetic Seizure Therapy for the Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder

Borderline Personality Disorder

Suicide is a major public health crisis for which effective new interventions are needed. An innovative new brain stimulation technique called magnetic seizure therapy (MST) shows promise for treating suicidal thinking in chronically depressed individuals. Using a high-risk cohort of suicidal patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and treatment resistant major depressive disorder (MDD), this study will evaluate the effectiveness of MST for reducing suicidality and depressive symptoms in an open-label clinical trial of up to 15 treatment sessions. Based on research showing that functioning of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) may be disrupted in BPD and place individuals at risk for suicide, the DLPFC will be targeted for stimulation. Moderate-to-highly suicidal patients with BPD beginning dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) will be recruited using a case-control design, comparing individuals receiving MST and DBT with matched patient control group receiving DBT alone.
