There are various ways to measure the strength of the pelvic floor and to evaluate functional problems. Manual mobilization of the pelvic floor is a well-known treatment modality, however, ample knowledge exists on the efficacy of physiotherapy and exercise for improvement of pelvic floor function and strength. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of pelvic floor fascial mobilization (PFFM) technique on the function and strength of the pelvic floor muscles as well as parameters presumed to be influenced by the strength of the pelvic floor in pregnant women.
Electrolysis Technique vs Manual Therapy in Pelvic Pain

This study compare pelvic floor manual therapy and intratissue percutaneous electrolysis (EPI) technique in the treatment of pelvic pain in women with dyspareunia. Half of participants will receive pelvic floor manual therapy while the other half will receive intratissue percutaneous electrolysis technique.
Enhancing Behavioral Treatment for Women With Pelvic Floor Disorders
Pelvic Floor DisordersAnxiety7 moreThe purpose of this proposal is to test a novel behavioral treatment - Unified Protocol Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (UP-CBT)1 - to enhance quality of life in women with pelvic floor disorders. Emotional distress is treatable using behavioral procedures, and effective treatment would increase women's emotional health and help to reduce urinary symptoms (e.g., incontinence, frequent urination). Women with pelvic floor disorders are often seen in the urogynecology clinic, which makes this setting ideal for offering additional interventions that may improve their quality of life. Unfortunately, many women with pelvic floor disorders may not receive effective behavioral treatment, such as cognitive behavior therapy, because urogynecologists and other medical professionals may not be aware of providers in their community who offer this treatment. The investigators will enhance treatment options by 1) providing evidence for an all-purpose cognitive-behavioral intervention (i.e., UP-CBT), 2) offering treatment in the urogynecology clinic, maximizing convenience, and 3) improving clinical outcomes for these patients. Specific Aims: To demonstrate that UP-CBT is an effective form of therapy for women with lower urinary tract symptoms. To use baseline characteristics in moderation analyses to determine which women will be most likely to have a good response to therapy. To use mediation analyses to test a possible causal chain of events - Does treatment lead to lower anxiety, which in turn leads to fewer urinary symptoms?

Urinary IncontinenceQuality of Life1 moreAim: To verify the effects of the abdominal hypopressive technic (AHT) associate or not with pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) in urinary incontinence (UI) symptoms and pelvic floor muscle strength. Methods: Randomized controlled trial. Thirteen incontinent women were randomly divided into an AHT group or AHT+PFMC group. Outcome assessment was carried out using digital palpation (modified Oxford grading scale), Peritron perineometer, and the International Consultation Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF) questionnaire. The treatment protocol consisted of five twice-weekly, 40-min one-on-one sessions. The participants were assessed only at baseline and after the intervention. Results: It is expected that the group who performed PFMC will improve the maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) and improve urinary incontinence symptoms, while the hypopressive exercise does not.

Investigation to Minimize Prolapse Recurrence of the Vagina Using Estrogen
Pelvic Organ ProlapseUrogenital Prolapse5 moreThis study randomizes postmenopausal women with symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse planning native tissue transvaginal surgical repair to 6-8 weeks of preoperative and 1-year continued postoperative vaginal estrogen cream compared to placebo cream. This clinical trial and basic science investigation are designed to understand the mechanisms by which local estrogen treatment affects connective tissues of the pelvic floor and determine whether its use before and after prolapse repair will (i) improve success rates of the surgical intervention and minimize prolapse recurrence and (ii) impact favorably upon symptoms of other pelvic floor disorders.
Lubricant Versus Lidocaine Gel for Pain Control During Urodynamics
Pelvic Floor DisordersThe purpose of this study is to determine a difference in patient reported pain levels before, during, and after multichannel urodynamics in patients treated with 2% lidocaine gel or water based lubricant. We hypothesize that lidocaine gel will decrease pain levels when compared to lubricant gel.
Pelvic Floor Muscle Assessment at 3-and 4-dimensional Transperineal Ultrasound
Pelvic Floor DisordersInjuries to the pelvic floor muscles and fascias during delivery and childbirth may lead to urinary incontinence (25-45 %), faecal incontinence (11-45%), pelvic organ prolapse (7-23%), sexual dysfunction (15-33 %) and chronic pain syndromes (4-15%). Pelvic floor muscle injuries are not easy to diagnose as they are not visible when looking at surface anatomy during a standard gynaecological examination. The investigators are therefore in urgent need of better tools to diagnose these injuries. Having a reliable and easily accessible tool enables studies of the consequences of such pelvic floor muscle injuries. It also makes it possible for us to explore the effect of interventions such as pelvic floor muscle training and surgery in patients with and without pelvic floor muscle injuries. The investigators have previously presented data to support the reliability and the validity of the three and four dimensional (3 and 4D) ultrasound technique used to define pelvic floor muscle anatomy in healthy volunteers and have now a tool to study women before and after delivery.
