Regenerative Potential of Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin and Bioactive Glass (Perioglas®).

Chronic PeriodontitisBone Loss1 more

The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the regenerative potential of Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin (A-PRF) and Bioactive Glass (Perioglas®) bone graft in the treatment of intrabony defects in chronic periodontitis patients.

The Effects of Periodontal Therapy on Glycemic Control in Diabetic Patients

Chronic PeriodontitisGeneralized

Is the non-surgical periodontal therapy can improve glycemic control in type 2 diabetic patients with chronic periodontitis?

Effect of Probiotics on Chronic Periodontitis in Smoker and Non- Smokers

Chronic Periodontitis

Periodontitis is one of the most common chronic inflammatory disease with the etiology of bacterial plaque and is associated with a number of putative bacterial species. The periodontal destruction is substantially mediated by the host, driven by the bacterial challenge. The presence of pathogenic bacteria with the absence of so-called "beneficial bacteria" and the susceptibility of the host are the main aetiological factors of periodontal diseases.

Effect of Omega 3 on Periodontitis in Postmenopausal Women

Chronic Periodontitis

The study was aimed to investigating changes in periodontal parameters and superoxide dismutase activity after root surface debridement with and without Omega 3 fatty acids (ω-3 FAs) supplementation in postmenopausal women. Adjunctive Omega 3 fatty acids supplements reduce periodontal inflammation and improve the status of systemic enzymatic antioxidants in postmenopausal women.

PeriodontitisAdult

in this clinical trial, patients with periodontal defects will be treated with advanced platelet-rich fibrin in conjunction with open debridement

Flapless Emdogain in the Treatment of Periodontal Residual Pockets

Chronic PeriodontitisGeneralized

48 adult patients participated in a single-centre randomized clinical trial with split- mouth design. They had presented at re-evaluation after initial non-surgical periodontal therapy (steps 1 and 2 of periodontal therapy) for generalized periodontitis with at least 2 teeth with residual probing pocket depths (PPD) ≥5 and ≤8 mm, with bleeding on probing (BOP). Two teeth with similar PPD were randomized to receive re-instrumentation either with (test) or without (control) adjunctive flapless administration of EMD. Differences in the changes of PPD and BOP from baseline to 6 and 12 months will be analysed, and the frequencies of pocket closure (PPD ≤4 mm and no BOP) will be compared

Effect of Probiotic Inersan and Doxycycline in Chronic Periodontitis

Chronic Periodontitis

Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease that can lead to the destruction of supporting tissues of the teeth resulting in pocket formation, recession or both. Since the primary etiological factors for periodontal disease are bacteria in supra and sub gingival biofilm, efforts for disease prevention and treatment are mainly focused on pathogen reduction and strengthening of epithelial barrier, thus contributing to decreased susceptibility to infection. Due to emergence of antibiotic resistance and frequent recolonization of treated sites with pathogenic bacteria, there was need for a new treatment paradigm to be introduced to periodontal disease. The need was fulfilled by the introduction of Probiotics and Bacterial Replacement Therapy. The term probiotic is derived from the Greek, meaning "for life" are microorganisms proven to exert health promoting influences in humans and animals. Food and Agriculture Organization and WHO have stated that there is potential for probiotic foods to provide health benefits and that specific strains are safe for human use.

Effect of Root Planing on Surface Topography.

Chronic Periodontitis

In a clinical trial of 19 patients, 44 single-rooted teeth will be randomly assigned to one of four groups for: 1) no treatment, 2) manual root planing with curettes; 3) root planing with piezoelectric ultrasonic scraper [PU]; or 4) root planing with vertically oscillating ultrasonic device [VOU]. Post-treatment, the teeth will be extracted and their topography analyzed in 124 observations with white light confocal microscopy, measuring the roughness parameters Rp, Rv, Rt, Ra, Rq, Rku, and Rsk.

Efficacy of a Probiotic Lozenge (Inersan) in Patients With Chronic Periodontitis

Chronic Periodontitis

Periodontal disease is a major cause of tooth loss in humans and is one of the most prevalent diseases associated with bone loss. Following bacterial colonization, the gingiva becomes inflamed leading, in some cases, to the destruction of the alveolar bone. Periodontitis has two distinct but interconnected etiologic components, periodontopathic bacteria and host-mediated connective tissue-destructive responses to the causative bacteria and their metabolic products. A few studies have revealed that probiotic Lactobacillus strains were useful in reducing gingival inflammation and the number of black-pigmented rods, including Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), in the saliva and sub-gingival plaque. Concerning periodontal conditions, its shown that application of beneficial bacteria, as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP), can inhibit re-colonization of pathogens in periodontal pockets and reduce bleeding on probing. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the improvement of periodontal health with probiotic (Inersan) lozenges, used as an adjunct to scaling and root planing [SRP].
