Utilization of a Periodontal Endoscope in Nonsurgical Periodontal Therapy
PeriodontitisAdultThe purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of teeth deep cleaning or scaling and root planing (SRP) using a periodontal endoscope (Perioscopy®) versus traditional SRP using magnifying loupes for up to twelve months, utilizing a split mouth design.
Effect of Iodine Deficiency on Periodontitis
Periodontal DiseasesPeriodontitis3 moreThe goal of this observational study is to compare urine iodine levels of participants with/without periodontitis. The main question it aims to answer is there a relationship between iodine levels of urine and periodontitis. Participants will give urine samples without any intervention.
PRF Growth Factors Levels in Diabetic Patients With Chronic Periodontitis
Diabetes MellitusChronic PeriodontitisDiabetic patients may show different release of growth factors when microvascular complications such as; retinopathy or periodontitis are seen. Diabetes have an adverse effect on periodontal health and periodontal infection have an adverse effect on glycemic control and incidence of diabetes complications. Therefore, the investigators hypothesize that growth factors levels releasing from platelet rich fibrin (PRF) in diabetes mellitus (DM) may be decrease because of periodontitis is considered to be the sixth microvascular complication of diabetes or diabetes may have inductive effect on PRF growth factors levels in periodontal disease. Determination of PRF growth factors levels may be beneficial to treatment of diabetic patient with periodontal disease by using PRF.
Fetuin A Association in Periodontal Disease and Diabetes Mellitus
PeriodontitisAdultAim: The aim of the current study was to compare and correlate gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) fetuin-A levels and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in non-diabetic periodontitis patients and type 2 diabetic periodontitis patients with healthy subjects and revealing its possible role in diagnosis of periodontal disease. Methodology: Forty-five periodontitis stage III patients categorized into 3 groups according to whether having type II diabetes mellitus or not were compared to systemically and periodontally healthy participants in this investigation. Clinical parameters for all groups were recorded. Assessment of GCF levels of fetuin A and hs-CRP were done to all enrolled participants utilizing an enzyme linked immune-sorbent assay (ELISA) kit. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to reveal sensitivity, specificity, predictive value and diagnostic accuracy of the markers used.
Estimation of Pentraxin3 and PGingivalis Levels in Patients With Knee Joint and Gum Diseases
Rheumatoid ArthritisChronic PeriodontitisPeriodontitis and Rhematoid arthritis are chronic inflammatory diseases which share common risk factors The purpose of this study is to determine if Pentraxin 3 and Porphyromonas Gingivalis levels play an important role in the progression of both the diseases.
Garlic Product Impact on Periodontitis (GPIP)
PeriodontitisAdultThis is a randomized, controlled, examiner-blind, 2-treatment parallel group study. The study will be conducted at the Hebrew University, Hadassah, Israel. A sufficient number of subjects will be screened to obtain approximately 200 generally healthy adult volunteers with mild to moderate periodontitis. Subjects will be stratified and randomly assigned equally to either the regimen group (AGE) or a control group (Placebo). Subjects will be requested to use the products at home for the duration of the study according to the written and verbal usage instructions given to them during product distribution. At Baseline, Month 6, 12, and 18 subjects will receive oral soft tissue exams, and will have gingival inflammation, bleeding, and periodontal measurements made as described in below. Both groups will receive supragingival dental prophylaxes every 6 month consistent with local norms and standards. Products will be re-supplied approximately every six months following Baseline. During study conduct, subjects with evidence of progressive periodontal disease (≥3 mm increases in pocket depth, attachment loss or recession) will be exited from the study and treated following local norms.
Smoking Influence on Apoptosis in Periodontitis
Chronic PeriodontitisAggressive PeriodontitisApoptosis is an evolutionary form of physiological cell death. Studies suggest that apoptosis is involved in the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases. Human gingival fibroblasts (HGF) have an important role in the periodontal immune response. It is believed that HGF can be diminished and/or eliminated by means of apoptosis. Smoking is one of the most common risk factor of periodontal disease. Studies indicated that smoking can increase the risk of periodontitis by enhancing the apoptosis of gingival fibroblast. The purpose of this study is to determine and to investigate apoptosis of HGF in gingival biopsies collected from smokers and non smokers who are diagnosed with chronic periodontitis or aggressive periodontitis. Eighty subjects will be invited to participate in this study. Patients will be allocated into four groups (20 patients each). Gingival biopsies will be obtained from the base of papillae during surgical treatment (open flap curettage) and will be examined by Immuno-histochemical analysis. Immune-staining will be done using p53 monoclonal mouse anti-human antibody.
Prevalence of Porphyromonas Gingivalis Fimbrial Subunit Genotype in Smokers and Nonsmokers After...
Chronic PeriodontitisThe aims of the present study will be identify 5 types of fimbrial subunit genotype strains in smokers and nonsmokers with periodontitis, before and after periodontal therapy. Third two periodontitis patients will be selected to these study, 16 nonsmokers and 16 smokers. Clinical and microbiological parameters were evaluated at baseline and 3 months after periodontal treatment: Plaque Index, Bleeding On Probe, Probing Depth, Gingival Recession and Clinical Attachment Level. The prevalence of P. gingivalis and fimbrial subunit gene strains will be determined by Polymerase Chain Reaction.
Chronic Periodontitis and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Polycystic Ovary SyndromeChronic PeriodontitisBackground: The aim of this study was to investigate the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant status (TAS), 8-hydroxy-2´- deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) in blood serum and saliva samples in female patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and to compared healthy individuals. Materials and Methods: A total of 88 women were into four groups each which were consisted of twenty-two subjects. Groups were designed as periodontally and systemically healthy women (PCOS-CP-); periodontally healthy women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (PCOS+CP-), systemically healthy women with CP (PCOS-,CP+) and women with PCOS and CP (PCOS+CP+). Serum and salivary samples were obtained, clinical periodontal parameters were recorded. MDA, TAS, 8-OHdG levels were measured as biochemically.
Quantification of Micro-RNA 146-a in Chronic Periodontitis and Coronary Heart Disease Subjects
Periodontal DiseasesCoronary DiseaseThe expression and quantification of Micro-RNA 146-a, was analyzed in the subgingival plaque samples of generalized chronic periodontitis patients with and without coronary heart disease. The demographic variables and periodontal parameters were assessed and correlated with expression of micro-RNA 146-a. The quantification of levels of micro-RNA 146-a was done using Real time Polymerase chain reaction. ( RT-PCR)
