Lutonix Global SFA Registry

Peripheral Artery Disease

The registry will enroll patients with claudication or ischemic rest pain and an angiographically significant lesion in the superficial femoral or popliteal artery. Subjects will be treated with the LUTONIX Drug Coated PTA Dilatation Catheter carrying the CE Mark per current Instructions for Use(IFU) and followed clinically for a minimum of 2 years.

Peripheral artery disease is a disease that contributes to significant morbidity and mortality of millions of Americans yearly. Very little is known about the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis in peripheral artery disease. We plan to collect peripheral arteries and muscle tissue from patients undergoing amputation for end stage peripheral arterial occlusive disease. By extracting the RNA from these arteries and tissues and comparing them with RNA expression from normal arteries, we hope to have a better understanding of the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis in this setting. We aim to prove the hypothesis that a novel gene expression pattern can be discovered by the successful extraction of RNA from plaques from human peripheral arteries.

The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of home-based measurement of walking capacity in peripheral arterial disease (PAD) patients, uing the Global Positioning System (GPS). This study should state if the GPS technique could be used in clinical routine in order to assess walking capacity in PAD patients. Patients will be assessed a first time (test 1) and six months later (test 2).

The whole study is divided in 4 parallel protocols. The first protocol estimates the reliability of the technique through test-retest recordings. The second protocol aims to prove that exercise Tcpo2 is efficient to estimate the benefit of proximal revascularisation on proximal and distal ischemia in patients suffering stage two lower extremity arterial disease. The third protocol aims at estimating with exercise tcpo2 the eventual apparison of proximal ischemia after aorto-bi-femoral bypasses. The last protocol is a transversal study of patients with aorto-bi-femoral bypasses aiming to analyse the presence of proximal and distal symptoms and ischemia. The hypothesis for protocol 2 is that TcpO2 at exercise is significantly improved after surgery at the aortic and primary iliac artery. The hypothesis for protocols 3 and 4 relates on the hypothesis that a significant number of patients benefiting aorto-bi-femoral bypass suffer isolated proximal pain/ischemia after surgery. Amendement to the project has been recently validated to study the neurologic and bone complication of chronic vascular ischemia

To determine the prevalence of peripheral arterial disease in a defined population by non-invasive techniques; to evaluate the association of cardiovascular disease risk factors with peripheral vascular disease; to determine whether non-invasive tests of peripheral arterial disease can be utilized as markers for coronary heart disease; to determine the status of the microvasculature using conjunctival photographs and to compare the results with risk factors and the peripheral arterial disease testing results.
