Treatment for Symptomatic Peripheral Neuropathy in Patients With Diabetes
Diabetic NeuropathiesDiabetes Mellitus3 moreThe purpose of this protocol is to determine if an investigational drug known as LY333531 is effective in treating nerve malfunction in diabetes.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine for the Treatment of NRTI-Associated Peripheral Neuropathy
HIV InfectionsPeripheral Nervous System DiseasesThe purpose of this study is to determine if acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) reduces pain, numbness, and tingling in the feet and legs of patients with nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI)-associated peripheral neuropathy. Another purpose is to determine if ALC is safe and tolerable in HIV patients who have taken certain anti-HIV drugs.
A Phase II, Double-Blind Trial of Recombinant Human Nerve Growth Factor for Treatment of HIV-Associated...
HIV InfectionsPeripheral Nervous System DiseaseTo assess the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of recombinant human nerve growth factor ( rhNGF ) in the treatment of HIV-associated sensory neuropathy. AS PER AMENDMENT 5/6/97: To compare the change in viral load between the double-blind phase baseline and week 4 in placebo and active rhNGF recipients. To ensure that rhNGF does not induce an increase in viral load compared with viral load changes seen with placebo. Up to now, treatments for HIV-associated sensory neuropathy have been symptomatic, relying on pain-modifying agents or membrane-stabilizing drugs. Because nerve growth factor is important in the development and maintenance of sympathetic and sensory neurons and their outgrowths, it is proposed that recombinant human nerve growth factor may provide a specific restorative treatment for HIV-associated painful sensory neuropathy.
The Efficacy of a Standardized Acupuncture Regimen and Amitriptyline Compared With Placebo as a...
HIV InfectionsPeripheral Nervous System DiseaseTo evaluate the separate and combined efficacy of a standardized acupuncture regimen and amitriptyline on the relief of pain due to peripheral neuropathy and on the quality of life of HIV-infected patients. Both amitriptyline, an antidepressant, and acupuncture, a Chinese medical approach that uses needles to relieve pain, have been used successfully to reduce pain in some people. It is not known how effectively these approaches relieve or reduce pain in patients with peripheral neuropathy secondary to HIV infection.
Achilles Tendon Lengthening in Patients With Diabetes to Prevent Foot Ulcers
Diabetes MellitusFoot Ulcer1 morePeople with diabetes often develop severe skin problems (ulcers) on their feet. Sometimes these are treated with surgery and other times by temporarily immobilizing the foot in a cast. This study compares the effect of surgery to lengthen the Achilles tendon and put the foot in a cast, to using a cast alone. The study will also examine how foot strength, joint movement, and overall ability to walk, balance and climb stairs is affected.
Titration Study of ABX-1431
Post Herpetic NeuralgiaDiabetic Peripheral Neuropathy2 moreThis study is designed to identify a titration regimen of ABX-1431 in adults with neuropathic pain with satisfactory tolerability to central nervous system (CNS) adverse events (AEs). During the course of this study, each participant will take a daily dose of ABX-1431 or a matching placebo for 28 days.
Quantitative Assessment of Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy After High Frequency Spinal Cord...
Painful Diabetic NeuropathyWill participants with painful lower extremity diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) that are treated with high frequency spinal cord stimulation (HF10 SCS) have improvements in lower extremity peripheral nerve function?
Video Game Balance Training for Patients With Diabetic Neuropathy
Diabetic Neuropathy PeripheralThis study evaluated the effects of interactive video game-based exercise (IVGB) on balance in diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy. Twenty-four patients were randomly assigned to two groups (12 participants per group). Group A received IVGB training for the first 6 weeks, with no exercise in the subsequent 6 weeks. Group B had no exercise for the first 6 weeks and then underwent IVGB training in the subsequent 6 weeks. Both subjective and objective measures were used to determine whether IVGB exercise improves balance function.
Acupuncture for Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral Neuropathy
Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral NeuropathyIn this study, a 24-week, single blinded, randomized controlled clinical trial will be conducted to examine the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) in colorectal cancer patients in Hong Kong.
