Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral NeuropathyProof-of-concept study to assess the effects of gonyautoxins (PSP NEURO SERUM) on safety and tactile sensitivity on patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). This is a multicenter, prospective proof-of-concept study in patients with solid tumors affected by CIPN. The study will be divided into two parts: Part 1 will assess the activity and tolerability of PSP NEURO SERUM and part 2 consists of a randomized cohort that will compare the activity of PSP NEURO SERUM vs placebo. Part 2 will depend on the results of part 1. If there are less than 8 responses in part 1, the study will be interrupted, and it will not be recommended to proceed with part 2. The detailed description of the study will be given only for part 1.

Giant Axonal Neuropathy Natural History Study
Giant Axonal NeuropathyGiant Axonal Neuropathy (GAN) is a devastating and rare childhood disease. Children with GAN develop increasing muscle weakness, impaired sensation, and at times mental retardation. GAN starts in infancy, leads to significant disability, and typically leads to death within the first 30 years of life. GAN is caused by a defect in the "gigaxonin" (GAN) gene, resulting in pathologically enlarged and dysfunctional nerves. Currently, there is no effective therapy. To find out what medications can help patients with GAN, the investigators have to conduct clinical trials. In this study, the investigators propose to prepare for future clinical trials and will invite GAN patients to join our research effort. The investigators will examine them regularly to better understand their disease. The visits will include questions, a physical exam, blood drawing, a lumbar puncture, and a skin biopsy. The visits will also include tests that assess the electrical conductivity of the patients' nerves as well as a test to measure the patients' brain wave activity. In addition, the investigators will be performing tests to evaluate the patients' motor function, their vision, and thinking ability. Identifying an effective GAN treatment is very important because there is currently none. Clinical trials are the only way to decide whether a new treatment works in GAN patients or not. With the future objective of conducting clinical trials in GAN, the proposed project has three specific aims. The first is to plan for clinical trials by developing reliable outcome measures, and establishing the infrastructure needed to carry out efficient clinical trials. The second is to further characterize the patient population from a clinical and molecular point of view, and the third aim is to utilize the information gathered in this study to further pre-clinical GAN drug development to select candidate drugs.

A Mind-Body Intervention for Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy
Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral NeuropathyCancerThis pilot study will include up to 25 patients with cancer experiencing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. Patients enrolled in the study will participate in a 10-week QiGong for Chemotherapy-Induced Neuropathy program. Patients will be evaluated before and after their program participation. Within 2 weeks before the program start date, patients will be administered an objective neuropathy assessment by a physician or nurse, and will complete questionnaires assessing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, perceived cognitive functioning, quality of life, and cancer-related symptoms. Patients will repeat these assessments at the end of the last QiGong class and will be asked to provide feedback on the QiGong program as a whole. Self-report questionnaires will also be repeated one week after the last class. Total duration of subject participation will be 11-13 weeks. Total duration of the study is expected to be approximately 9 months.

Patient ComplianceDiabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus. The prevalence rate is approaching towards a peak throughout the world including Bangladesh. The current intervention used in peripheral neuropathy does not bring satisfactory result. Recent trial shows that L-carnitine is effective and safe in DPN. So it is expected that L-carnitine may produce better effect in compared to other medicine used previously for alleviation of DPN.
