Study of Cisplatin-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy in Patients With Germ Cell Tumor

Testicular Germ Cell Tumor

This is a prospective observational study investigating the incidence, characteristics of, and change in chronic neuropathy symptoms related to cisplatin using the EORTC CIPN-20 instrument. Approximately 60 patients will be collected for this study. The duration of this study will be up to 18 months for each patient. This study will complement a current R01 funded trial (Platinum Study) which evaluates the genetic predisposition of chronic neuropathy after 12 months of chemotherapy. However, although the platinum study evaluates a similar patient population, it does not evaluate the natural history of platinum induced neuropathy during active treatment and the first 12 months post chemotherapy. This trial will fill this gap and add to the investigators knowledge for both natural history and genetic predisposition of platinum neurotoxicity.

Genetic, Environment and Its Interaction Analysis for Cardiovascular Autonomic Neuropathy

Cardiovascular Autonomic Neuropathy

A large-scale, community-based, cross-sectional study was conducted to explore the extent to which genetic, environment and its interactions associated with cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy (CAN) in general Chinese population. A total of more than 2000 participants were recruited by using multiple stages sampling (first cluster sampling and then simply sampling). Data involved in variables of genetic, environment were collected. Every participants was complete DNA extracted and genotyped by using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP). Cardiovascular autonomic functions were measured by using short-term heart rate variability (HRV) to evaluate the outcome of CAN. Genetic analysis were employed to evaluate genetic variants, environmental risk factors and its interactions for CAN.

Correlation Between Clinical and Electrophysiological Phenotypes in a Population of Patients With...

Charcot-Marie-Tooth Type 1A Neuropathy

This exploratory cross-sectional study proposes, firstly, to objectify in a population of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A (CMT 1A)if there is a correlation between the recording of electrical parameters and upper limb muscle strength of the thigh and in a second step, to seek a relationship between the measured parameters.

Administrative Claims Analysis of Metanx® in Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN)

This study will be an observational cohort study utilizing administrative claims data with 100 patients randomly selected taking Metanx® meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria and 400 propensity score matched patients meeting the same criteria to serve as a control cohort for analyses. This data includes medical, and pharmacy claims from the HealthCore Integrated Research Database for claims submitted during the time period of 01/01/2002 through 06/30/2007.

Epidemiology Study of Non-arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION)

Anterior Ischemic Optic NeuropathyIschemic Optic Neuropathy

The objectives of this study were to: (1) evaluate the natural history of non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION); (2) estimate the population incidence of NAION; and (3) identify potential risk factors for NAION.

Diabetes Peripheral Neuropathy and Small-fibre Nerve Damage: A Comparative Study

Diabetes MellitusPeripheral Neuropathy2 more

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether patients with diabetes-related peripheral neuropathic pain also have non-recognized damage to the intestine caused by autonomic neuropathy. The model will shed light on aspects of peripheral nerve injuries on both somatic and as well as visceral sensory nerves. Classical autonomic parameters from electrocardiography (ECG) and Holter (24-h ECG and blood pressure) are compared with peripheral nerve injuries. The damage of autonomic nerves often recognized late in the course when patients develop gastroparesis, however an earlier recognition of this nerve damage may help clarifying the fundamental pathomechanisms and thereby optimize treatment for this patient group in the future.

Nerve Morphology in Diabetic Patients

Peripheral NeuropathyCarpal Tunnel Syndrome2 more

The underlying basis of carpal tunnel syndrome and the basis of its increased incidence in diabetes are unknown. The aim of this study was to quantified pathology in an uncompressed nerve (posterior interosseous nerve in the forearm between diabetic and non-diabetic patients with CTS.

Validation Study of Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic Pain From Spinal Cord InjuryDiabetic Peripheral Neuropathy1 more

This study seeks to validate clinically evoked or obtained objective pain signs with the patient's corresponding quantified subjective pain symptoms. This will allow for validation of objective clinical pain signs to then be used to begin to classify patients with pain based on symptoms and signs. This then can be used as a basis for further study of neuropathic pain mechanisms in human patients.
