False Safety Behavior Elimination Therapy: A Randomized Study of a Brief Individual Transdiagnostic...

Panic DisorderGeneralized Anxiety Disorder1 more

The aim of the current study was to test the efficacy of an individually administered, brief (5-session) transdiagnostic treatment for anxiety disorders. The current treatment (called F-SET) focuses chiefly on the elimination of anxiety maintaining behaviors and cognitive strategies (so-called "safety" aids) among individuals suffering from a range of anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD) and panic disorder (PD). We hypothesized that the F-SET protocol would produce better overall outcome relative to a waitlist control.

Ketamine Infusion for Social Anxiety Disorder

Social Anxiety Disorder

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is common and causes significant impairment. First-line treatments for Social Anxiety Disorder are only partially effective. Many SAD patients experience little or inadequate symptom relief with available treatments. Ketamine is a potent NMDA receptor antagonist. Ketamine represents an agent with a potentially novel mechanism of action for the treatment of anxiety disorders. Ketamine has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of psychiatric disorders closely related to Social Anxiety Disorder including Major Depression, Bipolar Depression and possibly Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Ketamine represents the possibility to provide rapid symptom relief to patients with SAD and may provide the mechanism for future drug development to treat SAD more rapidly and effectively.

Imagery-based CBT for Social Anxiety Disorder: Piloting a Treatment Augmentation Protocol

Social Anxiety Disorder

The purpose of this pilot study is to explore whether there is a differential impact of verbal versus imagery-based cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as a treatment augmentation strategy for individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD). Clients who have not demonstrated clinically significant change following group CBT for SAD will receive four additional sessions of either verbal-based CBT or imagery-based CBT. We hypothesize that that individuals who receive imagery-based CBT will experience even stronger improvements and be more satisfied with their treatment than individuals who received traditional verbal-linguistic CBT.

Adjunctive Quetiapine in the Treatment of Refractory Social Anxiety Disorder in Adults

Social Anxiety Disorder

This is a 16-week research study in which participants suffering from Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) will receive Sertraline (a medication FDA approved for the treatment of SAD) for the first 8 weeks. If a participant remains symptomatic, he/she will enter the second phase of the study in which he/she continues taking Sertraline but also randomly receives either Seroquel or placebo in conjunction with Sertraline for additional 8 weeks. The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of adjunctive Seroquel in treating SAD.
