Combined CBM For Social Anxiety in Turkey
PhobiaSocialIn this study, it was examined whether or not combined attentional and interpretational bias modifications with university students who display social anxiety symptoms may lead to a decrease in social anxiety-related complaints. The study was conducted with 84 participants who were university students displaying social anxiety symptoms. The participants were randomly assigned into two conditions; cognitive bias modification group (E) and placebo-control group (C). Participants in group-E were subjected to attentional and interpretational bias modifications twice a week, eight sessions in total. Participants in group-C were subjected to a similar process, but without any modification. The levels of social anxiety, anxiety, depression, nonfunctional thinking of the participants were evaluated three times; just before the first session, just after the last session and two months after the last session. In addition, levels of attentional and interpretational bias of the participants were evaluated twice, just before the first session and just after the last session.
Cerebellar Neuromodulation to Enhance Fear Extinction and Predict Response to Exposure Therapy
Anxiety DisordersSocial PhobiaEmerging neuroimaging studies have shown that the cerebellum contributes to different aspects of timing, prediction, learning, and extinction of conditioned responses to aversive stimuli, factors that may be relevant to the success of exposure based behavioral therapy. Our goals are to determine the cerebellar contributions to fear extinction by attempting to modulate key pathways in this process by theta burst stimulation. The long term goal is to lay the foundation for future studies in which neuromodulation is used to augment exposure therapy.
Integrated Mental Health Care and Vocational Rehabilitation to Individuals on Sick Leave Due to...
Generalized AnxietySocial Phobia2 moreThe purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of 1) a stepped mental health care intervention and 2) an integrated mental health care and vocational rehabilitation intervention for people on sick leave because of depression and anxiety in Denmark
Predicting Treatment Response to Exposure Therapy Using Carbon Dioxide
Generalized Anxiety DisorderSocial Anxiety Disorder2 moreAnxiety disorders affect over a quarter of the population, yet very little is known about the variables that predict treatment outcome. The planned study explores whether a patient's response to a physiological test involving inhalation of carbon dioxide predicts their response to exposure therapy.
Acute Anxiolytic Effects of Riluzole on Subjects With Social Anxiety Disorder
Social Anxiety DisorderPerformance AnxietyThe goal of the current proposal is to examine if sublingual riluzole can reduce anxiety in people with social anxiety disorder during a public speaking task.
Pilot Study: VR Mind and VR Mind+ Intervention
Social PhobiaThe aim of the pilot study is feasibility, usability and safety assessment of VR Mind intervention. In particular the subject of assessment will be: the length of the laboratory session utilizing virtual reality exposure (feasibility), the ergonomics and ease of use for both patients and system operators (usability), the frequency of side effect occurrence as a result of virtual reality exposure (ie. Vertigo) (safety). The results pilot study will be used in the designing a clinical trial aimed for testing efficacy and safety of VR Mind intervention.
Cognitive Biases Modification Treatment for Social Anxiety
Social PhobiaAdults with Social Phobia will be randomly assigned to either an attention bias modification treatment, interpretation bias modification treatment, both, or a placebo control condition not designed to change cognitive bias patterns. Outcome measures will be social anxiety symptoms and severity as measured by gold standard questionnaires as well as diagnosis of social phobia disorder and symptom counts derived from structured clinical interviews based on DSM-IV criteria. The investigators expect to find significant reduction in social anxiety symptoms in the Treatment groups relative to the placebo control group. The investigators want to find out the relative efficacy of attention and interpretation oriented treatments and the combination of the two.
Assessing Mechanisms of Anxiety Reduction in Animal-assisted Interventions
Social Anxiety DisorderSocial Anxiety1 moreAdolescence and young adulthood is a critical period for the development of social anxiety, which is often linked to other mental health challenges such as depression, mood disorders, and substance abuse. Initial evidence suggests that interacting with animals can reduce stress and anxiety, but no research has tested whether this benefit extends to adolescents at risk for social anxiety disorder. Additionally, researchers and clinicians do not understand what mechanism is responsible for anxiety reduction in animal-assisted interventions (AAIs). Therefore, the objectives of this study are to explore the specific mechanisms by which interacting with a therapy dog reduces anxiety, and to test whether such an interaction reduces anxiety in adolescents with varying levels of social anxiety.
