Analysis of the Effectiveness of the Use of Glycine Powder and Angled Implant Brush in Oral Hygiene...

PlaqueDental

This study aims at comparing different procedures of Professional Oral Hygiene (POH) and Domiciliary Oral Hygiene (DOH) in Columbus Bridge ProtocolTM full-arch reinstated patients by dividing a sample of at least 74 patients into 4 groups with a 1:1:1:1 ratio. The patients will randomly be assigned to a "Standard" or "Glycine Perio Flow" Professional treatment, and to a "Standard" or "Angled" Toothbrush for their Domiciliary oral hygiene. Data about bacterial plaque presence is collected both before and after unscrewing the denture, when it comes to implant abutments. Instead, Denture Plaque Index will be collected after unscrewing the denture, by means of erythrosine and analyzed using a specific software that allows to compute the percentage of plaque on the denture. Patients will be seen after 3 months in order to figure out differences between DOH groups, by measuring plaque on abutments and on the denture after unscrewing it. At the moment there are no scientific studies trying to determine which professional and domiciliary procedures might be more efficient to control bacterial plaque in Columbus Bridge ProtocolTM reinstated patients. Statistically significant lower Plaque Index (PI) and Denture Plaque Index (DPI) scores are expected in patients treated with glycine perio flow, compared to standard treated patients. However, when it comes to angled toothbrush, lower PI and DPI are expected not to be statistically significant. Expectation from this study is to get information on how to improve full-arch patients' therapy in order to reduce peri-implant diseases which are related to bacterial plaque.

The Effect of Disclosing Dental Plaque on Plaque Index and Gingival Index in Faculty of Dentistry...

Periodontal IndexesOral Health

The hypothesis of this study is; using the tooth disclosing agents by individuals has a positive effect on oral care and as if it is an effective method in improving oral health. Therefore, the aim of this study is to assess the effect of visual guidance of plaque disclosing agents on plaque removal efficacy for patients versus the group of patients evaluated without any tools. Istanbul Medipol University Faculty of Dentistry 4th grade students are going to be invited to the study. The study will carry out with a total of 124 students. The students who are systemically healthy, drug-free, and at least 20 teeth in the mouth will be included in the study. Smokers, those undergoing orthodontic treatment, the presence of pain or infection that may prevent brushing, pregnant/breastfeeding students, and students who do not agree to participate in the study will not include to the study. After the initial records (Plaque index and Gingival Index and DMFT- caries, missing teeth due to caries, filled teeth) were obtained, the students in the study will randomly divide into 2 groups: Group 1; Control Group (n=62) After explaining the Modified Bass Technique and the use of dental floss/interface brush, students will be asked to brush their teeth. Group 2; Test Group (n=62) After explaining the Modified Bass Technique and the use of dental floss/interface brush, the teeth will stain with a plaque disclosing agent, the plaque is going to be shown in the mirror and then the students will brush their teeth. Post-operatively, periodontal parameters will be evaluated. Plaque index and gingival index will be measured immediately after brushing, 1 week, 1 months are going to be compared to baseline. A single investigator will make measurements of Gingival Index (GI, Löe and Sillness-1967) and Plaque Index (PI, Sillness and Löe-1964) using a Williams periodontal probe. Measurements will be obtained from 4 surfaces of all teeth (mesiobuccal, midbuccal, distobuccal, midlingual) except third molar teeth, and the values obtained will be summed and averaged, and the average of one tooth. Then, these values will be summed up and averaged, and the mean PI and GI of the individual will be obtained. The outcomes of the two groups will be evaluated by statistical analysis.

Comparison Between Modified Bass and Horizontal Brushing Techniques

Tooth Plaque

The goal of this observational study is to determine mean plaque scores to compare the effectiveness after using modified bass and horizontal brushing technique in undergraduate dental students. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: Modified bass method is less effective than the horizontal brushing technique for plaque removal in undergraduate dental students Modified bass method is more effective than the horizontal brushing technique for plaque in undergraduate dental students. Participants will check plaque scores with the help of probe and disclosing agents after applying both techniques in a separate quadrant on the same subject. Researchers will compare modified bass and a horizontal brushing technique to see which one is reliable and more effective.

Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy With Erythrosine and Blue Light on Dental Biofilm Bacteria

Dental Plaque

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy mediated by Erythrosine and blue LED in the reduction of bacteria in dental biofilm. This clinical trial will be carried out with 30 patients who have biofilm, but without the presence of periodontal pockets, and who are being treated at the Dental Clinic of Universidade Metropolitana de Santos. A split-mouth model will be used (n = 30), with group I control - conventional treatment and group II - conventional treatment and antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT). The bicarbonate jet will be used to remove dental biofilm in both groups. The treatment will be carried out in 1 session. aPDT will be performed before cleaning/prophylaxis, only in group II. Participants will rinse with the photosensitizer erythrosine (diluted to 1mM) for 1 min of pre-irradiation time, so that the drug can stain all the bacterial biofilm. Then, the D-2000 LED (DMC) will be applied, emitting at a wavelength of ʎ = 430-490 nm and 900-1100 mW/cm2. Irradiation will be performed until the biofilm of the cervical region is illuminated for 2 min per point. Each irradiation point will be approximately 0.4 cm2. The microbiological examination will be performed from samples of supragingival biofilm collected from the gingival sulcus. Two collections will be performed in each experimental site before irradiation, and immediately after the irradiation procedure (group II) or prophylaxis (groups I and II). Biofilm samples will be collected before and after exposure, respectively, and sent to the microbiological laboratory for colony counting. After this period, the CFU's will be counted and the data will be submitted to statistical analysis for comparison of pre and post-treatment results and between groups (conventional X aPDT).
