A Retrospective Study to Evaluate the Predictability of Abnormal Arterial Blood Gas Measurements...
Respiratory FailureCOPD4 moreA retrospective study to evaluate the predictability of abnormal arterial blood gas measurements through novel observations of continuous trends in electronically measured respiratory in a mixed cohort of respiratory compromised patients.
Interstitial Lung Disease Research Unit Biobank
Interstitial Lung DiseaseSarcoidosis3 moreEstablish a interstitial lung disease (ILD) registry and biorepository to lead towards a further understanding of the disease.
Novel Lung Imaging in Adults Undergoing Radiation Therapy to Assess for Radiation Pneumonitis
Lung CancerBreast Cancer2 moreThe purpose of this study is to to compare lung function data generated by applying High Fidelity Functional Lung Imaging (HFFLI) software to 4D CT, cone beam CT, and fluoroscopic images of the lungs breathing to determine whether different modalities of imaging provide similar data on lung movement and function. HFFLI may detect changes in lung function in patients undergoing External Beam Radiotherapy for cancer.
Superinfection and Hyperinflammatory Phenotype in COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) Pneumonia...
COVID-19 PneumoniaSuperinfection LungPatients suffering from COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) pneumonia are prone to bacterial and mycotic superinfection. According to existing evidence, the prevalence of superinfection is about 8% to 14% (95% CI 5-26%). However, the percentage of patients treated for superinfection is as high as 80%. There can be multiple reasons for this difference.
Surveillance of Non-invasive Streptococcus Pneumoniae Infections in Belgium
PneumoniaOtitis Media1 moreThe investigators will conduct a prospective observational study of non-invasive S. pneumoniae infections in Belgium and characterize serotype distributions to evaluate national vaccination programs.
RSV Burden in Outpatient Settings
RSV InfectionChildren5 moreStrengthening outpatient low respiratory tract infection surveillance to document the burden of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)
Molecular Biomarkers for Sepsis
SepsisSevere Community-acquired Pneumonia (sCAP)2 moreThis multi-center observational case-control study in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients is to identify novel biomarkers allowing to recognize severe community acquired pneumonia (sCAP) -associated sepsis at an earlier stage and predict sepsis-related mortality. Patients with sCAP (cases) will be profoundly characterized over time regarding the development of sepsis and compared with control patients. The mechanisms and influencing factors on the clinical course will be explored with most modern -omics technologies allowing a detailed characterisation. These data will be analysed using machine learning algorithms and multi-dimensional mathematical models.
The Clinical Course of Interstitial Pneumonia With Autoimmune Features
Interstitial PneumoniaInterstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF) is a chronic interstitial lung disease (ILD) with some laboratoristic and/or clinical features of autoimmune disease, but without meeting criteria of connective tissue disease (CTD), and with no other causes of ILD. Despite recent efforts to standardize the diagnosis of IPAF, subjects with IPAF represent a very heterogenous group of patients, whose prognosis and clinical course are far from being clear. It also remains to be clarified what proportion of IPAF patients develop clear features of CTD over time. The aim of this observational trial is to define the clinical course of patients newly diagnosed with IPAF by prospectively following them for a period of 3 years, at 6-month intervals. The primary outcome will be 3-year lung transplant-free survival. The secondary outcome will be the proportion of patients who develop clinical and laboratoristic features clearly meeting criteria for a diagnosis of CTD at 3 years from the time of diagnosis of IPAF. Predictors of survival will also be studied.
Antibiotic Prescription in Children Hospitalized for Community-acquired Pneumonia
Community Acquired Pneumonia in ChildrenAntibiotic StewardshipA study to observe how often antibiotics are prescribed in children hospitalized for pneumonia and how doctors decide if a child needs antibiotics or not. Parent satisfaction will also be recorded.
Biomarkers for Ventilator-associated Pneumonia
PneumoniaVentilator-AssociatedThe purpose of this study is to evaluate different peptide biomarkers, variations in the microbiome and patterns in the bacterial transcriptome as prognostic or diagnostic biomarkers of VAP.
