Effects of Biological Treatment on Blood Pressure and Endothelial Function in Patients With Rheumatoid...

Rheumatoid ArthritisPsoriatic Arthritis2 more

The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of anti tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) treatment on blood pressure, endothelial function and immune cell phenotype in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.

Efficacy of Physiotherapy on the Health and Quality of Life of the Rheumatic Patient

Rheumatic Arthritis

Despite leading cause of morbidity, treatment strategies for Rheumatic diseases are geared almost exclusively toward medical-pharmacological area away from offering the patient the possibility of an interdisciplinary approach to their disease. Present study test whether treatment of physiotherapy reduces stiffness and pain inherent in rheumatic disease and improve their quality of life related to health.

A Study to Assess the Pharmacokinetics of Methotrexate Given With and Without AZD9056 in Rheumatoid...

Rheumatoid Arthritis

The main aim of this clinical study is to investigate whether the blood concentration of methotrexate changes when AZD9056 is co- administered together with methotrexate.

Assessment of the Clinical and Medico-economic Impact of SinnoTest® in Patients With Rheumatoid...

ArthritisRheumatoid1 more

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of the main chronic inflammatory rheumatic diseases (RCI), with a prevalence of about 0.4% of the population. First-line treatment with immunomodulators (synthetic and biological Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (sDMARDs) including methotrexate) is not sufficiently effective in 40% of cases. These patients are then treated with biological Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (bDMARDs) called biotherapies. As the use of these bio-drugs increases each year, they become a major public health and economic issue. Their growth is only just beginning, as they are among the major providers of pharmaceutical innovation. There are about ten bio-drugs currently on the market for rheumatoid arthritis with an average annual treatment cost of 8 to 12 000 euros per patient. This cost is 20 times higher than that of sDMARDs. However, among patients treated with biotherapy, clinical practice shows that approximately one-third (33%) will not respond to the selected bio-drugs. In the event of non-response, physicians currently have no choice but to rotate empirically between different treatments, as no tools capable of predicting response or non-response to these molecules are currently available. SinnoTest® software, a predictive algorithm for responding to bDMARDs by analyzing proteomic biomarkers, will clarify this choice of prescription for patients with failed RA of a first bDMARD in the anti-TNF family.

Do Nanobubbles Improve Joint Hypoxia?

Rheumatoid ArthritisPsoriatic Arthritis

Inflamed joints in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis are characterized by low oxygen levels and inflammation. We propose to investigate whether tiny bubbles (nanobubbles) when given in a drink can alter oxygen level in joints. These nanobubbles are so small that they can enter the bloodstream when given as a drink. This information will give new information on the role of oxygen in joint inflammation and could possibly lead to new treatment approaches in the future.

Oval-8 Splinting Versus Standardized Treatment With Tee Pee or Forearm Based Thumb Spica Splinting...

Carpometacarpal (CMC) Joint Arthritis

The oval-8 splint has been developed for many uses in finger pathology and trauma. It has not, however, been used to treat thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) joint arthritis. When treating thumb CMC joint osteoarthritis, splinting is a very widely used and supported treatment option for non-operative management. Many studies have been performed showing that thumb spica splinting in abduction with either a hand based or forearm based splint improves pain. This study aims to compare the effects of a novel splinting approach with oval-8 splints for the hyperextended thumb interphalangeal (IP) joint vs. standardized treatment with Tee Pee splinting (hand based thumb spica) or forearm thumb spica splinting on pain and function of patients with thumb CMC joint arthritis. This is a pilot study will address the following hypothesis: Splinting of the hyperextended thumb IP joint with oval-8 splints will lead to increased DASH scores and decreased pain on physical exam compared to splinting with thumb spica splints in patients with thumb CMC arthritis.

ELECTOR Treat-to-target Via Home-based Disease Activity Monitoring of Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis...

ArthritisRheumatoid1 more

The aim of this study is to explore whether the effectiveness of home-based disease activity monitoring via a home-based (eHealth) intervention is superior to standard clinical disease activity assessment in obtaining and maintaining a low(er) disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Human Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNFa)-Induced Pre-B Cell Bone Marrow Emigrants

Rheumatoid Arthritis

The purpose of the study is to determine the effects of TNF (tumor necrosis factor; a mediator of inflammation) on B cells in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. TNF and B cells are important in rheumatoid arthritis because they both appear to be involved in causing rheumatoid arthritis.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Evaluation With Ultrasound in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

Median Nerve Entrapment

In rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, the diagnosis of Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) was made based on clinical findings and physical examinations. Then, the cross-sectional areas of the participants' median nerves from different levels were measured. Meidolateral and anteroposterior diameter were measured at the level of the carpal tunnel inlet. Flattening ratio was calculated. wrist to forearm ratio and wrist to forearm difference were calculated. The obtained data were compared between RA with CTS, RA without CTS and healthy control.
