Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy of reproductive-aged women characterized by chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism and insulin resistance. Available guidelines recommend lifestyle intervention although they do not suggest the best dietetic regimen for the treatment of PCOS. Thus, the purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two nutritional protocols, namely Mediterranean Diet and standardized normocaloric Diet in normal weight women with PCOS.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the use of electroacupuncture to dredge and regulate Dai Meridian combined with lifestyle modification are more effective than lifestyle modification only in the treatment of anovulation and hyperandrogenism due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with abdominal obesity.Two thirds of participants will receive electroacupuncture and lifestyle modification in combination, while the other one third will receive lifestyle modification only.

210 women with clomiphene resistant PCOS will be randomly divided into 3 equal groups using computer generated random numbers. Group 1 will receive combined metformin and FSH, group 2 will have LOD and group 3 will act as the control group with no intervention.

The main aims of this study are: to investigate and compare the effects of long lasting use (59 weeks) of vaginal and oral contraceptives on androgen secretion, insulin and glucose metabolism, lipid profile, and serum levels of SHBG and hs-CRP in women with PCOS. to compare the metabolic effects of oral and vaginal combined contraceptives and to find out whether oral or transvaginal contraceptive can be recommended to a particular group of women, for example in women with increased metabolic risks. to clarify whether the unfavourable effects of combined contraceptives diminish with time (after use of one year).
