Active clinical trials for "Post-Concussion Syndrome"

The iDETECT (Integrated Display Enhanced Testing for Concussion and mild traumatic brain injury) system is a novel portable, open access platform that enables immediate and rapid assessment of multimodal neurologic function. This study seeks to evaluate the iDETECT function testing battery with currently used balance and inner ear assessment methods during initial concussion clinic referral. Two groups of participants will be enrolled; a concussion related dizziness cohort and control subjects. The investigators will enroll the concussion cohort from patients presenting to the Sports Concussion Institute (SCI) with persistent dizziness and imbalance symptoms following possible concussion. Healthy control participants will be recruited from the local community. iDETECT's ability to identify post concussion balance/vestibular disturbances will be compared to an expert concussion assessment. Both cohorts will participate in the iDETECT assessment and the clinical assessment.

The goal of this project is to determine if it is possible to assess Cerebrovascular Reactivity (CVR) to hypercapnia with functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS). Such a method would be particularly helpful in traumatic brain injury (TBI), where objective measures are needed, and would greatly expand the capacity to make such assessments in standard clinical practice.

The purpose of this project is to explore the degree to which performance consistency on neuropsychological measures varies in a sample of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)/Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) Veterans with a history of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) with persistent self-reported symptoms.

The overall hypothesis is that the long-term cognitive and behavioral sequelae of traumatic brain injury (TBI) are due to selective disruption of the long association white matter tracts of the cerebral hemispheres, with resulting functional impairment of the network of cortical regions that are interconnected by these long-range association pathways. We propose that traumatic white matter injury can be measured with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and that the impaired cortical activation can be detected with magnetoencephalography (MEG), and that the results of these imaging examinations will correlate with neurocognitive status and functional recovery after TBI.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)is effective in the treatment of post-traumatic stress symptoms in children and adolescents with mild traumatic brain injury (m-TBI) due to motor vehicle accident.
