At the same time, little is yet known about the potential mechanisms of action of these therapies. A vacuum pump induces a massaging effect of the skin including the deeper tissue layers. The resulting massage technique corresponds to a kind of tissue manipulation similar to dry cupping. In this procedure, suction force and air flow can be individually adjusted. This is an advantage that can be used for patients with varying degrees of sensitivity or who are preloaded by patients with varying degrees of sensitivity or a history of pain. The aim of this study is to investigate the mechanisms of action of the therapeutic effects of the vacuum cupping in chronic neck or back pain using the biomarker QST.
The Effects of Kinesio® Tape on Neck Pain and Disability
Neck PainThis study is a within-subjects design; therefore, the participant will serve as their own control. Participants will be included in the study if they have neck pain or disability defined by a score of more than 14 on the Neck Disability Index. They will be excluded if they have any diagnosed disc pathology. A mask-associated pain questionnaire will be completed by the participants prior to the study to determine their perceived effect of mask-wearing on neck pain. This questionnaire is adapted from the HAPPE study on mask-associated headache pain. A baseline pain rating will be recorded a numerical pain scale. Next, active cervical range of motion will be measured, three times in each direction to be averaged. A pain rating will be recorded for pain during cervical motion. Kinesio® Tape will be applied to activate the cervical extensor muscles. The participant will sit with the tape on for 20 minutes, then active cervical range of motion and pain will be recored again.

Optimizing Mental Health in Orthopedic Care

In semi-structured interviews, orthopedic providers and patients with spine conditions will discuss their overall perspectives, specific needs, and preferred solutions to addressing mental health impairment in the context of orthopedic care and research. In these sessions, patient stakeholders will also user test two specific mental health interventions: a customized version of a commercial digital mental health intervention (Wysa) and a prototype of a print-based mental health resource guide. The patient stakeholders will be provided one month of Wysa access, and they will complete baseline and follow-up measures related to usability, clinical effectiveness, and intermediate behavioral mechanisms through which Wysa is hypothesized to act. Wysa usage data will be obtained from the app company. Delivery of Wysa and the printed resource guide will be iteratively refined based on user feedback.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and social isolation, most of the individuals with office based occupations are performing their duties from their homes, which has some negative impact on their neck biomechanics and leads to the postural neck pain, this study will not only enlighten the beneficial effects of home-based exercise manual for the patients of postural neck pain, to reduce the risk of disability and improve their quality of life, but it will also be cost effective for them.
