Herpes ZosterPost-herpetic Neuralgia

Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) which persists more than 90 days after the resolution of the acute shingles episode is the most common complication of herpes zoster. The continued pain or paresthesia not only affects patient quality of life, but also causes physical disability, emotional distress and social isolation. Conventional treatments for PHN are only partially work in some patients or not work at all in others. Once PHN presences, it is often refractory to the treatment, therefore, it is important to prevent the occurrence of PHN. In the study, the investigators want to identift whether the additional use of oxycodone therapy to current standard treatment in acute herpes zoster patients will decrease the incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia.

Evaluation of the Efficacy, Tolerability and Safety of Etoricoxib (Arcoxia) in Patients With Neuropathic...

Postherpetic NeuralgiaNeuralgia

The present study will aim to determine the safety, efficacy, and tolerability of etoricoxib, an NSAID pain reliever, in patients with Neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain, or pain caused by abnormal activity of sensory neurons, remains undertreated. Post herpetic neuralgia (PHN), which is commonly referred to as post-shingles pain, is the most useful disease to study when investigating the efficacy of pain relievers for Neuropathic pain. Therefore, this study will primarily involve patients with PHN. The hypothesis in this study is that etoricoxib efficacy is superior to that of placebo.

Postherpetic NeuralgiaHealthy Age/Gender Matched Volunteers

Postherpetic Neuralgia is a painful nerve condition that can occur when nerve fibers are damaged following an outbreak of shingles. The purpose of this study is to identify and study abnormalities in the nerves and cells in the of patients with postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN) and characterize changes that could be responsible for causing nerve pain. This data will be compared to the tissue of healthy volunteers. Our goal is that this information will lead to the development of better treatment options for people with painful nerve conditions.
