Predictive Value of Ariscat Index In The Development of Pulmonary Complication After Major Abdominal...
Postoperative ComplicationsCancer4 moreThe term postoperative pulmonary complication is the development of any complications affecting the respiratory system after anesthetic and surgery procedures. The ARISCAT risk assessment score is a seven-variable regression model that divides patients into low, moderate, and high-risk groups. In this study, the investigators aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the ARISCAT risk scoring index in predicting postoperative pulmonary complication development in patients scheduled for major abdominal cancer surgery.
Impact of Age and BMI on Liver Transplant Outcomes
Liver Transplant; ComplicationsPerioperative/Postoperative ComplicationsProspectively enrolled retrospective chart review and Liver Transplant database review to determine the modifiable and nonmodifiable risk factors specifically relating to Living Donor Liver Transplants. To observe the impact of age and BMI on graft outcomes and whether they impact the intraoperative management, post-operative length of stay, and complications.
Intraoperative Phlebotomies and Bleeding in Liver Transplantation
Liver DiseasesLiver Cirrhosis5 moreLiver transplantation are surgeries associated with important bleeding and often require perioperative red blood cell (RBC) transfusions. Overall, between 20 and 85 % of liver transplant recipients receive at least one RBC transfusion during their surgery. Such transfusions are consistently associated with higher morbidity and mortality, although this causal association is still under debate in many surgical populations. Despite the lack of clear causative association between perioperative transfusions and worse outcomes, minimizing bleeding and transfusions is believed to improve postoperative outcomes. Many perioperative variables are associated with higher blood loss and need for perioperative transfusions: liver disease severity, preoperative anemia and coagulopathy, higher cardiac filling pressures and higher fluid administration, among others. However, few perioperative interventions have been shown to reduce bleeding and transfusion requirements in this population. Among them, the use of intraoperative phlebotomies to reduce portal and hepatic venous pressure during the dissection phase is a promising one, also described in liver resection surgery. To further investigate the effects of intraoperative phlebotomies on intraoperative bleeding, perioperative transfusions and mortality, the Principal Investigator will conduct a retrospective cohort study with a propensity score based causal analysis.
A Retrospective Clinical Registry of Peripheral Nerve Block
Nerve BlockRegional Anesthesia1 moreLocorregional anaesthesia have been increased its role in different kind of surgeries, alone or combined with general anesthesia. Due to ultrasound, peripheral nerve blocks have been increased their importance in locoregional anaesthesia. They provide excellent intraoperative and postoperative analgesia, decreasing the need for intravenous opioids which increase postoperative nausea and vomiting which may prolong hospital stay. The primary study objective is to analyze retrospectively the use of peripheral nerve blocks in the current practice of a specialized regional anaesthesia division. This is an observational, retrospective and unicenter study. 1346 patients scheduled for the surgery needed a peripheral nerve block were enrolled.
The Effect of Caudal Block on the Postoperative Complications in Pediatric Patients After Hypospadias...
HypospadiasHypospadias refers to a disease represented by a congenital defect in the urethra meatus (urinary opening) in male children. Due to the postoperative pain, symptoms such as discomfort, agitation, and restlessness are generally found. In particular, young children with restlessness often express their pain or discomfort with their bodies because they are unable to express it in words. This severe restlessness may make an operated region unstable, accompanying bleeding, infection, or other surgery-related complications. Because postoperative pain control is very important, neuraxial block techniques such as epidural block or caudal block have been employed in addition to a penile dorsal nerve block. Although the neuraxial block technique including the caudal block is an easy and safe method and has an excellent effect, the neuraxial block technique poses a potential risk in the procedure. In addition, with respect to the surgical prognosis, it has been reported that penile engorgement may cause penile vasodilation, resulting in oozing at the surgical region or other surgical complications. However, there has not been a report on the increase of postoperative complications by penile vasodilation or on the difference in the recovery or surgical prognosis according to the types of pain control for young patients.
A Trial Comparing Wound Drainage and Post-operative Complications With and Without the Use of EVICEL™...
Thyroid NeoplasmGoiterPrimary Objectives To compare the amount of post-operative wound drainage between the group of patients in which EVICEL™ spray is utilized (Arm A), and the group of patients in which an EVICEL™ placebo is utilized (Arm B). To compare the length of time to drain removal between Arm A and Arm B. Secondary objectives To compare the incident or rates of seroma, hematoma, and post-operative edema between the two groups. To compare the reported pain experienced in each group at selected time points using a standard numerical rating scale (NRS). To compare the length of hospital stay between the two groups of patients.
Evaluation of Surgical Complications
Post Operative ComplicationsSurgical complications may be very serious and are often under-reported. The aim of this study it to document and study all the postoperative complications at our department during one year using a novel grading system.
Preoperative Self-assessment for Cardio-pulmonary Risk Stratification
Lung DiseasesObstructive2 moreThis prospective study intends to development and validation a patient self-assessment questionnaire. The aim of the self-assessment, by questionnaire, is to estimate the risk of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC).
LUS and Consequences of High FiO2 in Children
Perioperative/Postoperative ComplicationsThe purpose of this study is to evaluate effect of high FiO2 on the development of intraoperative atelectasis in mechanically ventilated children using LUS. to investigate the correlation between lung consolidation score and patient clinical variables including pulmonary mechanics, Sao2%, ABG, and perioperative respiratory complications.
Anesthesia-handover Checklist and Perioperative Outcomes in Elderly
Elderly PatientsMajor Surgery3 moreWith the increasing number of surgical cases, intraoperative handover of anesthesia care is common and inevitable. Verbal handover from one anesthesiologist to another during surgery are being used in many hospitals. However, verbal handover is often an informal, unstructured process during which omissions and errors can occur. It is possible that an improved anesthesia handover may reduce the related adverse events. This study aims to test the hypothesis that use of a well-designed, structured handover-checklist to improve handover quality may decrease the occurrence of postoperative complications in elderly patients undergoing major noncardiac surgery.
