Outcomes of Carbohydrate Loading Paediatric Patients Preoperatively for Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy...
Postoperative PainPostoperative Nausea3 moreRandomised control trial of 150 paediatric patients aged between 3-8years. One group will receive a preoperative carbohydrate oral drink and the other group will receive current standard care (no drink) prior to undergoing tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy. Outcomes to be reported will be: 1) patient and parent satisfaction; 2) post operative pain score at: recover, 1 hour post op, prior to discharge home and then day 1 postoperatively; 3) PONV rates in recovery, prior to discharge home and again on Day 1 postoperatively; 4) sleep quality night after surgery.
Is Correcting Total Serum Calcium Levels Important After Thyroidectomy
HypocalcemiaThyroid4 moreThis study is designed as a prospective non-randomized longitudinal single- center cohort study to evaluate the importance of correcting total serum calcium levels. It will enroll around 100 patients undergoing total thyroidectomy with data being collected from March 2020 up to August 2020. The aim of this study is to determine whether total serum calcium level should be corrected for serum albumin in assessing symptomatic hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy and which variable (total serum calcium, ionized calcium, corrected serum calcium for albumin with Payne's formula or early PTH) is the most valuable predictor of symptomatic hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy.
Haemodynamic Monitoring in Head and Neck Cancer Patients
Postoperative ComplicationsIn order to estimate the effect of fluid management in regard to postoperative complications this observatory study will document every kind of fluid intervention peri- and intraoperatively.
Effects of Intraoperative Goal-Directed Fluid Therapy on the Incidence of Postoperative Complications...
Postoperative ComplicationsExcessive fluid loss is often reported in gastrointestinal surgical patients due to preoperative fasting and bowel preparations. Insufficient fluid infusion may cause hypovolemia and tissue hypoperfusion, which may delayed postoperative recovery and even induce postoperative acute renal failure. The aim of this study is to compare the effects of Goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) strategy with that of the conventional fluid management on the morbidity and mortality of postoperative complications, length of postoperative hospital stay, and medical expense, so as to provide clinical evidences for optimized intraoperative fluid management for patients undergone gastrointestinal surgery.
The Effect of Erythromycin on Occurrence of Leaks From Cervical Esophageal-Gastric Anastomosis After...
EsophagectomyPostoperative ComplicationsCervical anastomotic leak is one of the most common complications after trans-hiatal esophagectomy. Hypothesis: An early post operative administration of a pro-kinetic dosage of erythromycin will reduce leak occurrence. Design: This is a prospective, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study. Number of patients: 30. Inclusion Criteria: Patients after trans-hiatal esophagectomy Exclusion Criteria: Allergy to erythromycin Use of phenothiazine QT prolongation Liver function test (LFT) abnormalities Myasthenia gravis Cardiomyopathy
Study to Determine the Impact of Intraoperative Blood Pressure Management on Postoperative Outcomes...
DeathPostoperative Complications3 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether intraoperative hypotension or hypertension is independently associated with postoperative mortality and morbidity whether quality improvement interventions implemented at the University of Michigan and at Washington University: decrease the extent and duration of intraoperative hypotension and hypertension. are associated with decreased postoperative mortality and morbidity.
Feeding Practices After the Surgery and Incidence of Vomiting
Post-Op ComplicationThis study is aimed to only observe the feeding practices after surgery in children undergoing below umbilicus surgery in day care and any impact of length of fasting on vomiting after surgery. If the child meets the criteria for being included in this study, the parents will be provided with informed consent form at the time of arrival at the daycare unit or at the time of arrival in the waiting area of the operating room. If parents agree and sign the consent form, then the child will be included in the study. The length of fasting period after the surgery and any episode of vomiting from after surgery till discharge time to home, will be recorded on a printed form. The nature of this study is only observation and the child will not be subjected to any new technique or medications. Parents will also be contacted on the next day of surgery on the phone number for any further observation about the child's feeding and vomiting and parental satisfaction with the anesthesia given will also be asked.

Risk Factors of Postoperative Complications in HCM Patients
Hypertrophic Obstructive CardiomyopathyPerioperative management may have strong connections with postoperative complications (PCs). However, little is known about the perioperative risk factors of PCs after septal myectomy in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) patients. This study is designed to assess the in-hospital PCs rate of HOCM patients and to identify perioperative risk factors of PCs in patients who underwent septal myectomy. Retrospective chart review will identify adult HOCM patients who underwent septal myectomy from October 2013 to December 2018 in the investigators' hospital. Patients' data will be collected from electronic medical records. The multivariable logistic regression analysis will be used to determine independent predictors. The predictive ability of individual predictor and different combination of multiple risk factors on PCs will also be calculated.
