Incidence, Risk Factors and Impact of Significant Pain in Patients Undergoing Neurosurgery
Postoperative PainNeurosurgeryThe proposed study intends to evaluate incidence of postoperative pain after neurosurgery. This study is likely to help in understanding of the magnitude of this problem in our country and inform about possible predictors which will help institute pre-emptive interventions to mitigate modifiable risk factors of pain after neurosurgery.
Incidence of Chronic Pain After Thoracic Surgery
Postoperative PainPostoperative Pain5 moreThoracotomy and video-assisted thoracic surgery procedures are frequently performed in thoracic surgery. It is widely accepted that thoracotomy causes severe acute pain. This prolongs the discharge time of the patients, and increases the frequency of postoperative pulmonary complications and postoperative morbidity. Postoperative acute pain may cause chronic thoracotomy pain in the later period, and may adversely affect the quality of life of the patients. Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) has become the standard procedure in minor and major lung surgeries. Postoperative pain is seen in patients undergoing VATS, although it is not as severe as after thoracotomy. As in thoracotomy, this affects the postoperative pulmonary complications and the discharge time of the patients. Likewise, this pain can cause chronic pain. In this study, it was aimed to analyze the symptoms of chronic pain in the 3rd and 6th months postoperatively in patients who had undergone thoracic surgery.
Incidence of Chronic Pain After Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery
Postoperative PainPostoperative Pain4 moreVideo-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is frequently performed in thoracic surgery. It is widely accepted that VATS causes acute pain. Many factors such as postoperative analgesia treatment plan, operation time, number of chest tubes, and duration of chest tube stay can affect acute pain. This acute pain prolongs the discharge time of the patients and increases the frequency of postoperative pulmonary complications and postoperative morbidity. Postoperative acute pain may cause chronic pain in the later period, and may adversely affect the quality of life of the patients. This study, it was aimed to analyze the symptoms of chronic pain in the 1st and 3rd months postoperatively in patients who had undergone VATS.

Postoperative DeliriumChronic Postsurgical PainSingle-celled sequencing for evaluating differences in gene expression patterns in different cell types of the dynamics of a means of this research as a starting point, to study the postoperative delirium and chronic pain at the cellular level changes the contents of a cell, reveal its occurrence and development of the role of gene regulation, find targets and biomarkers, and to provide new ideas for its pathogenesis, To provide theoretical basis support for its prevention, clinical diagnosis and treatment.
Acute Postoperative Pain and Catastrophizing in Patients Undergoing Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty...
Post Operative PainAdvantages of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) compared to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) include shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, fewer infections and readmission, and lower costs. It is well documented in TKA-surgery that high pain responders (HPR), evaluated using the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), have higher postoperative pain responses compared to low pain responders (LPR). These HPR-patients constitute a vulnerable high risk patient group and potentially benefit from targeted treatment. Currently, the distribution of HPR- and LPR-patients and their association with acute pain following UKA is not well investigated. The knowledge that this research project generates is essential to determine how studies with analgesia interventions should be designed. In the future this will contribute in targeting treatment for high risk patient groups to reduce pain and improve postoperative mobilization, and ultimately decrease length of hospital stay in patients undergoing UKA. By targeting treatment, a potential overtreatment is also avoided. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of high- and low-pain responders, defined by a PCS score > 20 and ≤ 20 respectively, as well as the acute postoperative course of pain for these groups after unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.
The Adolescent Surgery Experience: A Mixed Methods Analysis
PainPostoperative7 moreNew chronic pain and opioid use are reported as prevalent among adolescents undergoing major surgery; many unanswered questions remain regarding recovery and the anticipated pain trajectory across procedures and the interaction between pain treatment, acute inflammation and new chronic pain. Broadly, the proposed study will characterize the adolescent's postoperative recovery experience, and establish the anticipated pain trajectory across a range of procedures.
Artificial Intelligence to Evaluate Postoperative Pain Based on Facial Expression
Artificial IntelligenceFacial Expression3 morePatients' subjective complaints about pain intensity are difficult to objectively evaluate, and may lead to inadequate pain management, especially in patients with communication difficulties.
Assessment of the Development of Postoperative Persistent Postoperative Pain
Opioid UsePost Operative Pain1 moreDuring the postoperative period, it is possible to observe the development of acute pain, which lasts no longer than a week after surgery. However, sometimes some patients see the prolongation of this pain beyond the healing time of the tissue, turning into a chronic condition. Persistent postoperative pain is a disease with a complex and still unknown etiology, affecting between 5 and 75% of the population. The development of persistent postoperative pain is a rather important issue since the physician managing the patient must on the one hand ensure adequate analgesia, and on the other hand, minimize the risk of continued opioid use in the case of chronicization. In a study conducted analyzing the prevalence of persistent postoperative pain in various surgeries it was seen to occur more frequently in limb amputation (prevalence >85%), thoracotomy (prevalence 48%), knee arthroplasty (prevalence 44%), laminectomies, and spinal arthrodesis (prevalence 5-46%), and hip replacement (prevalence 27%) making this type of pain more frequent in the patient undergoing orthopedic surgery. As the mechanisms behind its development have not yet been fully clarified, efforts to study the clinical factors associated with the onset of this pathology have been attempted. As there is no way in the literature to stratify the risk of the population in order to prevent the development of postoperative pain, based on the variables reported by different studies, it was decided to administer in patients referred to the Orthopedics and Traumatology 1 U and Orthopedics and Traumatology 3 U department at the Orthopedic Trauma Center of Turin questionnaires to assess the development of chronic pain for screening purposes and to contribute to the improvement of the long-term management of these patients in the postoperative period.
Quality of Recovery From Mastectomy With and Without PECS Blocks
Post Operative PainQuality of Recovery After MastectomyThis is a prospective observational study. Investigators want to understand post-operative recovery for patients undergoing mastectomy at NorthShore University HealthSystem. Some of these patients receive PECS blocks with Liposomal Bupivacaine and some do not receive a block. Investigators want to know whether patients who receive a block have better post operative recovery and pain control than patients who do not receive one. Investigators also want to understand whether PECS blocks with Liposomal Bupivacaine improves quality of recovery at 72 hours post operatively.
