Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Chronic Traumatic Brain Injury or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Traumatic Brain InjuryPost-traumatic Stress DisorderThis is an observational research study whose purposes are to see: if 40 Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy sessions at 1.5 atmospheres (HBOT 1.5) or more (60, or 80 HBOT's) help, worsen, or have no effect on subjects with chronic TBI/PCS (Traumatic Brain Injury/Post-Concussion Syndrome) and/or PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). if improvements or worsening of symptoms can be recorded with computerized and written tests for memory and thinking, and with questionnaires about the subject's quality of life and health. determine the long-term outcome of the treatment. confirm, in large numbers of study participants at multiple sites nationwide, the strong positive results obtained in pilot studies
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for Suicidal Ideation
Depressive EpisodePosttraumatic Stress Disorder1 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is effective in the treatment of suicidal thinking in individuals with a depressive episode and either posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), history of mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), or both conditions.
Initial Study of Insomnia/Nightmare Group Treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
InsomniaNightmares1 moreMany combat Veterans suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), an anxiety disorder that develops after an extremely stressful event or events. PTSD is associated with problems falling asleep or staying asleep. Veterans with PTSD also commonly have nightmares from stressful experiences. These symptoms can cause problems in daily life. Behavioral treatments that do not involve taking medication have been shown to help improve problems related to sleep and nightmares. However, very few of these treatments address both sleep problems and nightmares at the same time, even though many people suffer from both problems. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a combined treatment for sleep problems and nightmares in Veterans suffering from combat-related PTSD that is presented in a group format. The investigators hypothesize that the completion of this treatment will lead to increases in sleep quality and decreases in the frequency and severity of nightmares as measured by standard questionnaires.
Effectiveness of Prolonged Exposure of PTSD in a Community Setting of PTSD Sufferers
Post Traumatic Stress DisorderAnxiety DisorderIntroduction: Efforts to bridge the gap between research based treatment modalities advancements and clinical practice have received the highest priority in the research community. In the child psychiatry field there is an urging need to promote bridging this gap. Parents and child health providers hesitate to refer children to child psychiatrist due to stigma but also due to lack of awareness of available and efficient treatment options. In the field of trauma treatment another reason for lack of treatment is lack of recognition of trauma related symptoms in children. After the second Lebanon war scarce referrals to psychiatric clinics have been registered and access to treatment is low as indicated by 20 referrals in the past year to Emek Hospital. We propose to explore the effectiveness of well-established adult treatment for PTSD, the Prolonged Exposure (PE), in community-based general pediatric clinics, serving an underprivileged diverse population. Methods: Twenty children age 6 to 18 attending general pediatric clinic and in Afula region will included. children will be diagnosed using the Hebrew translation of the Childhood version of the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia (Apter et al., 1989 Children will receive the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and the. CPSS All subjects will be treated with a manualized 12-week Prolonged Exposure protocol Ratings will be made at baseline, 6weeks, and 12 weeks using CDI and CPSS Hypothesis: 1. PE adapted for pediatric population will be effective in treating single-event traumas in a community setting.
Decision Aid in Veterans With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Posttraumatic Stress DisorderThe purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a decision aid on veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) presenting for care. The investigators' primary hypothesis is that patients assigned to use the decision aid will demonstrate improved quality of decisions regarding PTSD treatment relative to patients assigned to usual care. Improved decision quality will be examined by assessing patient's knowledge of treatments, evaluation of the risk and benefits, ability to arrive at a decision, and certainty about that decision. The investigators' secondary hypothesis is that patients assigned to the decision aid will be more satisfied with their care and more compliant with their care compared to patients assigned to receive usual care. The investigators will also determine whether patients assigned to the decision aid, relative to patients assigned to usual care, are more likely to receive evidence-based treatments for PTSD and experience reductions in PTSD symptoms.
CBT for Anxiety Sensitivity vs. Disorder-specific CBT: An RCT
Generalized AnxietyStress Disorder4 moreAdults with high anxiety sensitivity (AS) and a mental health diagnosis of anxiety, depression, or posttraumatic stress will be recruited and will be randomly assigned to either transdiagnostic cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for AS or disorder-specific CBT for their primary mental health problem. The study outcomes - AS, anxiety, mood, and substance use symptoms, and functional impairment - will be assessed at pre-and post-treatment and 6 and 12 months post-treatment via standardized self-report measures completed by participants and a standardized diagnostic interview.
Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing in the ED and Post-Traumatic Syndrome
Post-Traumatic Stress DisorderMillions people, all over the world, are admitted in the Emergency Department after a trauma or simply to receive medical cares. In France, it represents 10 million patients. Probably because of stress associated with the event, 20% will suffer a combination of non-specifics symptoms which persist for many months and with daily life quality impairment. The investigators hypothesize that an early intervention, such as Eye-Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) could be performed in the ED and could prevent the occurrence of these symptoms
Diary for Severe Trauma
Post-traumatic Stress DisorderTreatment of severe trauma patients includes intensive cares. Both trauma and intensive care may lead to a post-traumatic stress disorder and then to a decreased quality of life. Diaries may improve the frequency and the intensity of PTSD. Aim of investigator is to assess if diaries may improve quality of life after a severe trauma.
Association Between a Peri-traumatic Dissociation State and the Occurrence of Post-traumatic Stress...
Severe TraumaGeneral AnaesthesiaPatients will be selected after studying clinical records.Patients who had general anesthesia due to an injury related to severe trauma within 6 to 12 months prior to inclusion will be included. Three self-survey will be completed by the patient: PDEQ, PCL-5 and a demographic questionnaire. According to the PDEQ and PCL-5 scores, an association between a peri-traumatic dissociation state and a post-traumatic stress disorder can be established.
Liberalization of Visiting Policies in ICU for Reducing High Risk of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder...
PTSD in Family Members of ICU PatientsThis was a cluster randomized study of an ICU level intervention to reduce high risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in family members of ICU patients. Participating ICUs had restrictive visiting policies (i.e., <6 hours/day) before randomization. After an observational period and a washout period, participating ICUs were randomized either to maintain their visiting policies or to liberalize their visiting policies (24 hours a day, 7 days a week.)
