Pre-eclampsia and intra uterine growth restriction (IUGR) represent major complications for pregnant women, with a high related maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. It is now widely admitted that these pathologies, which can concern up to 7% of pregnancies, are in relation with hypo-perfusion of the placenta because of an early deficient trophoblast invasion and uterine vascular remodelling.Advances in ultrasound imaging now permit non invasive 3D volume and Doppler signal quantification using automatic acquisitions.Quantitative comparison of volumes and Doppler parameters between control pregnancies and IUGR ought to confirm the theory of UTERO-placental hypo-perfusion. This technique might allow an earlier prediction for IUGR. The aim of this study is to evaluate the interest of 3D Doppler quantification as a new screening tool for pre eclampsia and IUGR.

Left Ventricular and Endothelial Function in Preeclampsia

The purpose of this study is (1) to examine whether the left ventricular function is impaired in women with preeclampsia relative to healthy pregnant controls, (2) to examine whether the endothelial function is impaired in women with preeclampsia relative to healthy pregnant controls, and (3) to examine whether there is a post partum impairment in left ventricular and endothelial function.

Validation of a PrCr Dipstick Diagnostic Test in Ghana

This evaluation will aim to generate a body of evidence that will determine performance characteristics of the current PrCr dipstick test and the feasibility of its use in target ANC settings. Data will be used to inform further product development and/or support development of an introduction framework, including the process and associated resources needed for incorporation of the PrCr test into future larger-scale demonstration studies as well as to support early product launch. The objectives of the evaluation are as follows: Primary objective: Assess the accuracy of the PrCr dipstick test for detection of proteinuria in representative antenatal care settings in Ghana. Exploratory objectives: Understand the feasibility of integrating the use of the PrCr test into ANC services in Ghana. Explore the potential for improved ANC management of PE/E using the PrCr test in intended ANC settings versus the current standard of care used for proteinuria screening, protein-only determination via a low -cost urine dipstick test.

100 women with severe preeclanpsia received Magnesium sulfate 6 grams intravenous over 20 minutes as a loading dose. Resistance index [RI], pulsatility index [PI] and systolic/diastolic [S/D] ratio of the umbilical artery, uterine aryery and fetal middle cerebral artery before and repeated 20 minutes after intravenous administration of 6 grams of magnesium sulphate (loading dose) over 20 minutes . fetal breathing movements and fetal gross movements are counted within 20 minutes, before and after intravenous administration of 6 grams of magnesium sulphate (loading dose) over 20 minutes

Preeclampsia is a systemic pregnancy disorder and is associated with an increased cardiovascular risk later in life. This study will characterize myocardial tissue in patients after preeclampsia compared to controls and investigate potential functional and structural changes in the heart of preeclamptic women primarily with two methods: cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography. A comparison between these two methods, where appropriate, is also envisaged.

First Trimester Fetal Thymus Volume May Predict Preeclampsia

The exact etiology of preeclampsia remains unclear but is known to involve immunological factors. The thymus is one of the main organs involved in the development of the fetal immune system. The aim of this study was to explore the association between fetal thymus volume on ultrasound and preeclampsia by adding the 3-dimensional measurement of thymus volume to the routine fetal ultrasound scan at 11-14 week of gestation. Investigators performed a prospective clinical study in 100 pregnant women in their first trimester of pregnancy who attended the Fetal Medicine Unit of the Medicine Faculty of Karadeniz Technical University during the study period. Maternal age, gravida, para, BMI, blood pressure, gestational age, CRL and fetal timus volume measured with VOCAL programme are recorded. For all patients routine clinical and ultrasound examinations were performed during pregnancy. Gestational age at birth, way of birth and newborn birthweight were recorded. The results were statistically compared in the SPSS 13.0 program. Student-t test and chi-square test were used for statistical analysis. ROC curve analysis was used for limit values. The data of patients with preeclampsia and without preeclampsia were compared. The ability of the thymus volume to predict the preeclampsia was tested using binary logistic regression analysis. P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.
