Novel Retinal Imaging Biomarkers in Early Alzheimer's Disease
Mild Cognitive ImpairmentMild to Moderate Cognitive ImpairmentThe goal of this study is to create new retinal imaging processing software useful for the development of novel retinal biomarkers of cognitive impairment associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Monetary Cost of Alzheimer's Disease in China
Alzheimer's DiseaseThe purpose of the study is to estimate the Chinese economic burden in patients with Alzheimer's Disease (AD).
Blood-brain Barrier Permeability in Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer's DiseaseThe main aim of the present study is to improve our understanding of the role of blood-brain barrier function in dementia of the Alzheimer's type. The investigators hypothesize that microvascular dysfunction - more specifically "cerebral perfusion and blood-brain barrier leakage" - is a determinant of cognitive decline and cortical atrophy in Alzheimer's disease.
Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness and Cerebrospinal Fluid Aβ/Tau
Alzheimer DiseaseTo test the hypothesis that retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness is correlated with Aβ and Tau concentration of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in an older population.
Sustainable Method for Alzheimer's Prediction
Alzheimer DiseaseAmnestic-Mild Cognitive ImpairmentThis is an observational study with the aim of validating, in a consistent population sample, with appropriate follow-up, whether EEG connectivity analysis combined with the neuropsychological evaluation and ApoE genotype testing in aMCI could be of help in early identification of converted aMCI as a first-line screening method in order to intercept early those subjects with a high risk for rapid progression to AD.
Polyphenols and Risk of Dementia
DietPolyphenols6 moreThis project aims to leverage existing data from a large observational prospective study on dementia, the Three-City study, to investigate the relationship between intakes of polyphenols and the risk to develop dementia in the 12 years following dietary assessment.
Development of a New Neuroimaging Method Aimed to Differentiate Mnesic Abilities of Alzheimer and...
Alzheimer DiseaseDepressionThe purpose of this study is to use a new method to differentiate mnesic abilities of early alzheimer patients and patients with a depressive disorder. This method is based on the recording of cerebral activity while patients listen to familiar, unfamiliar and newly-learned music.
Eye Gaze Strategies During Facial Emotion Recognition in Neurodegenerative Diseases: Links With...
Alzheimer's DementiaParkinson Disease(PD)1 moreIt is commonly admitted that social cognition impairment, like deficit in facial emotion recognition or misinterpretation of others' intentions (Theory of Mind), are associated with social behavior disorders. This kind of disorders are observed in Fronto-Temporal Dementia (FTD), Alzheimer's Dementia (AD) and Parkinson's Disease (PD), with severe deficits in FTD and lighter deficits in AD and PD. One explanation might be that patients apply inappropriate visual exploration strategies to decode emotions and intentions of others. This study aims to test this hypothesis and further to analyse whether different patterns emerge from these pathologies.
Daily Study of Caregiving Relationships and Health
Caregiver BurnoutDementia7 moreThe purpose of the Daily Study of Caregiving Relationships and Health is to learn how caregiving relationships and social connectedness are associated with dementia caregivers' health, health behaviors, and diurnal patterns of salivary cortisol. This is a pilot study wherein the purpose is to test the feasibility and acceptability of study protocols.
Research on Aging Project in Iceland: Second Stage
AtherosclerosisOsteoporosis4 moreBackground: - Researchers are interested in studying the environmental and genetic factors that play a role in health and living conditions as people age. Since 2002, the U.S. National Institute on Aging and the Icelandic Heart Association Research Institute have been conducting a long-term study known as the Research in Aging project to collect personal data and samples from Icelandic men and women in order to study risk factors related to disease and disability in old age. Researchers plan to initiate a second stage of the study. Objectives: - To collect additional personal information, medical records, and blood samples from individuals who have previously provided materials for the Research in Aging Project in Iceland. Eligibility: - Individuals who have previously participated in the Research in Aging project in association with the U.S. National Institute on Aging and the Icelandic Heart Association Research Institute. Design: Participants will have a physical examination with imaging analysis procedures and hearing and eye tests, provide information on health and diet, and provide a 100-ml blood sample for testing. Participants will also provide consent for researchers to consult data and samples collected during the first stage of the Research on Aging project.
