Peri-operative Risk Factors for Postoperative Pressure Ulcer in Surgical Patients

Postoperative Pressure Ulcer

The aim of this retrospective study is to overall evaluate and validate preoperative and intra-operative risk factors for postoperative pressure ulcers in critically ill postoperative patients.

Tissue Vascular Optics and Impedance Measurements for the Detection of Early Tissue Damage and Pressure...

Pressure Ulcer

Pressure ulcers are common, distressing and expensive. Currently scoring systems and checks by nursing staff are carried out to assess a patient's risk of developing a pressure ulcer. The investigators would like to see whether non-invasive measurements can be taken from patients to predict who might be at risk of pressure ulcers to allow us to intervene and reduce the risk of it happening.

Early Identification of Suspected Deep Tissue Injury (sDTI)

Pressure UlcerBed Sore

The purpose of this study is to further clarify existing research on the early identification and documentation of suspected deep tissue injury (sDTI). Basic principles of physiology along with prior research suggests that sDTI has quantifiable amounts of heat (or lack thereof) relative to surrounding tissue that will exhibit characteristic thermal signatures (temperature). These signatures will be measured and quantitatively recorded using long-wave infrared thermography (LWIT) to not only identify sDTI, but to also learn more about their pathophysiological evolution. Additionally, the LWIT physiological data will be cross-compared to the gold standard of visual assessment and other current standards of wound evaluation.

Pressure Area Distribution on a Variety of Clinical Surfaces

Pressure Ulcer

Participants in the study will be adults with full mobility, with the capacity to give informed written consent. The investigators will recruit a group of volunteers in order to represent a variety of BMIs, in an attempt to gain a sample of the BMIs found in the population. The investigators will mimic current practices and standard equipment in order to replicate real conditions as closely as possible. Participants will lay on the following surfaces in the following scenarios Ambulance scoop: supine (lying flat on their back) A&E trolley: supine Hospital bed: supine Theatre table: supine Theatre table: Left lateral (lying on their left side at 90 degrees to the operating table) with pelvic binders (pads designed to keep the hip immobile). Each participant will remain in each position on that particular surface for a period of 25 minutes. A pressure mapping mattress will lie between the participant and the surface assessed to generate a pressure map. Following completion of data collection, data will be analysed and any areas of potential pressure damage vulnerability will be identified.

Comparing Different Surgical Techniques for Coverage of Pressure Ulcer

Pressure Ulcer

The Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery department of Montpellier was born out of the Wound and Healing department, the first unit of this type to be created in Europe. The investigators quickly became the national leader in the management of pressure ulcers, especially in people with spinal cord injuries. Our expertise has evolved over time as well as our surgical techniques for covering ulcers, gradually over time the investigators have gone from " random " flaps to " propeller " flaps, more reliable in terms of vascularization and more logical in terms of force distribution and skin tension. The investigators found subjectively that the rate of complications was lower for the helical flaps. The investigators therefore seek to confirm this trend through a retrospective study on patients operated on in the department between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2019.
