The Periviable Birth Plan

PregnancyHigh Risk4 more

Pregnant women who are at risk of delivering their infants in the periviable period can suffer a large amount of stress and anxiety. Moreover, many women feel a loss of control over their own pregnancy. There is some evidence that more counseling and planning can help reduce maternal stress and anxiety. Patients at risk of delivering in the periviable period will be randomized to either receive standard counselling or to complete the periviable birth plan.

The Influence of Fish-oil Lipid Emulsions on Neonatal Morbidities

Retinopathy of PrematurityNeonatal Cholestasis

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has been shown to be particularly important for fetal and neonatal development. Infants born prematurely are at special risk for DHA insufficiency. The source of DHA after birth for preterm babies who are not fed full enterally, are mostly fat emulsions as the component of total parenteral nutrition solutions which usually do not contain DHA. The aim of this study is to investigate if the fish oil emulsion-administered from the first day of life and during parenteral nutrition-prevents infants from cholestasis and retinopathy of prematurity.

Autologous Mesenchymal Stem Cells Transplantation In Women With Premature Ovarian Failure

Premature Ovarian Failure

Stem cells (SC) are the foundation cells for every organ, tissue and cell in the body. They are undifferentiated "blank" cells that do not yet have a specific function. Under proper conditions, they begin to develop into specialized tissue and organs. They are self-sustaining and can replicate themselves for long periods of time. They have the remarkable potential to develop into many different cell types in the body. They serves as a sort of repair system for the body, they can theoretically divide without limit to replenish other cells as long as the person is still alive. Premature ovarian failure (POF) is the loss of ovarian function in women less than 40 years. It is associated with sex steroid deficiency, amenorrhea, infertility and elevated serum gonadotropins. POF occurs in 1 % of women. In majority of cases the underlying cause is not identified. Management essentially involves hormone replacement and infertility treatment. This work aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Autologous MSC transplantation in women suffering from Premature Ovarian Failure.

Comparison Between Preterm Infants Who Are Placed on Their Back or Stomach in the Immediate Postextubation...

Pregnancy Preterm

The purpose of this study is to determine whether patient positioning (prone and supine positioning) contributes to the success of extubation in the immediate postextubation period of preterm infants.

Two Methods of Diagnosing Preterm Labor

Preterm LaborPreterm Delivery

Use of modern diagnostic tools e.g. fetal fibronectin and ultrasound measurement of cervical length to diagnose preterm labor can result in improved outcomes compared to traditional diagnosis based on digital examination to measure cervical change.

Vaginal Progesterone to Reduce the Risk of Another Preterm Birth

Pregnancy

This research study is being conducted at over 12 pregnancy research centers in the US. The study will compare an investigational treatment with a placebo (a treatment without medication). Neither the investigators nor the patients in the trial will know which treatment has been assigned. All study medications will be given vaginally once a day. Treatment will begin before pregnancy week 23 and will continue until the end of pregnancy week 36.

Effects of Probiotic and Prebiotic Combinations on Premature Infants

Premature InfantsStool Bacterial Composition1 more

The purpose of this study is to see how oral preparations containing both probiotics and prebiotics impact the growth, bacterial colonization of the intestines, and fecal short chain fatty acid content in premature infants. Our hypothesis is that short term growth will be improved, the stool will have more healthy bacteria, and the fecal short chain fatty acid content will increase in the babies who receive the probiotic/prebiotic combinations compared to control groups.

The Effect of Kinesiotaping Method on Feeding of Late Preterm Infants.

Preterm Infants

Problems such as poor nutrition, weak sucking, lack of suck-swallow-respiration coordination, low weight gain are among the factors increasing the risk of morbidity in late preterm infants. Early support of sucking and swallowing muscles for the development of suck-swallow coordination can shorten the maturation process and provide early discharge of late preterm infants. The aim of this study is to document kinesiotape technique to support sucking and swallowing muscles for treating nutritional problems and for reducing nutrition risks and accelerating maturation. According to power of analysis of this study, 74 infants planned to assign to kinesiotaping group or control group randomly. In kinesiotaping group, infants feeding performance will be evaluated by measuring the amount of milk invested, maximum heart rate, oxygen saturation, speed of milk intake and counting the number of swallow during feeding. Kinesiotape will be applied to masseter and hyoid muscles 24 hours later after the birth of the infant. Infants will be evaluated before kinesiotape application, 3 hour later and 24 hour later after the application.
