Prenatal Counseling in Extreme Prematurity: Professionals' View

Premature BirthExtremely Premature Infants

This study is part of the PreCo study, evaluating Dutch care in (imminent) extreme preterm birth including current and preferred counseling, barriers and facilitators for preferred counseling from both obstetricians and neonatologists, as well as parents' views on this. Since 2010, intensive care can be offered in the Netherlands at 24+0 weeks gestation (with parental consent) but as some international guidelines, the Dutch guideline lacks detailed recommendations on organization, content and preferred decision-making of the counseling.

Incidence, Risk Factors and Severity of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in Turkey

Retinopathy of Prematurity

The study includes preterm infants who are being screened for ROP between April 1,2016 and April 30, 2017 in 69 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in Turkey. Infants with birth weight (BW) of ≤1500 g or ≤32 weeks' gestation and those with a BW of greater than 1500 g or gestational age (GA) >32 weeks with an unstable clinical course are included. The incidence of any ROP, severe ROP and treatment modalities will be determined. The risk factors for ROP development will also be evaluated.

Executive Functions and Preterm Children in 11 to 12 Year Old

Preterm Infant

Preterm children have a high risk for neurodevelopmental impairments. The impact on motor functions and neurosensory functions is demonstrated but the incidence of executive functions is not described for preterm infants.

Skin to Skin and Heart Rate Variability

Heart Rate VariabilityPreterm Infant

The objective of this study is to monitor heart rate variability in preterm infants receiving respiratory support, including conventional mechanical ventilation, during skin-to-skin care. We hypothesize that skin to skin care will be associated with a more mature pattern of parasympathetic activity as measured by various domains of heart rate variability. Specifically, the standard deviation of the normal-to-normal interval (SDNN), the root mean squared of successive differences of normal-to-normal intervals (RMSDD), and the standard deviation of deceleration (SDDec) will decrease in infants that are receiving skin-to-skin care across all types of respiratory support compared to infants who are lying in their isolette.
