A Study of Neurophysiologic Changes in Individuals With Parkinson's Disease

The goal of this study is to investigate neurophysiologic tests that have the potential of serving as screening tools for Parkinson's disease. These neurophysiologic tests will be administered to individuals with Parkinson's disease and parkinsonian syndrome and validated against a healthy control population. Specifically, this study will look at changes in motor function, cognitive function, handwriting, speech, and olfactory function in individuals with Parkinson's disease, individuals at risk for Parkinson's disease and healthy controls.

Observational Study of Pergolide Mesylate and Cardiac Valvulopathy

The primary objective of this study is to estimate the incidence of new-onset valvulopathy, determined by baseline and follow-up echocardiograms, in patients with Parkinson's Disease who are receiving pergolide as second-line therapy. The secondary objective of the study is to estimate the prevalence of valvulopathy, as determined by baseline echocardiograms, among all patients who have Parkinson's Disease and are being considered for pergolide as second-line therapy.

Studies of Frontal Lobe Brain Functioning in Schizophrenia

The purpose of this study is to use brain imaging technology to investigate the role of the frontal lobe of the brain in the thinking of individuals with schizophrenia and other neuropsychiatric disorders and healthy volunteers. Participants in this study will undergo a positron emission tomography (PET) scan of the brain while performing neuropsychological tests. Some of the tests involve cognitive operations that depend upon the frontal cortex. Interactions between frontal lobe activation, cognitive behavior, and neuropharmacology will be assessed by measuring regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) during treatment with drugs that may affect frontal lobe physiology.

Examining Parkinson's Disease-Related Retirement: Results of Turkey

Although Parkinson Disease's (PD) is usually associated with an older patient population, 5% of patients are diagnosed at age 50 and 30% before 65 years of age. This shows that many patients with PD have diagnosed during the active study and have long periods of normal retirement. After the diagnosis of Parkinson's patients, the duration of leaving of employment vary between 0 and 25 years. It was found that patients' full-time working capacity decreased by up to 80% and they quitted earlier than the general population. The disability associated with PD is thought to be a factor in this situation. Nevertheless, the reasons for early retirement are not fully known and more information is needed on the specific problems of PD in order for patients to continue their career. The aim of our study is to examine the impact of Parkinson's disease on retirement and to contribute to Turkey's data. Patients with PD admitted to the Parkinson's disease outpatient clinic, which is the biggest clinic of Turkey about neurology, are included in the study. It is planned to meet with 75 patients on 31/12/2018 and to reach the end of the data collection phase.

Prediction of STN DBS Motor Response in PD

Despite careful patient selection for subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN DBS), some Parkinson's disease (PD) patients show limited improvement of motor disability. Non-conclusive results and the lack of a practical implantable prediction algorithm from previous prediction studies maintain the need for a simple tool for neurologists that provides a reliable prediction on postoperative motor improvement for individual patients. In this study, a prior developed prediction model for motor response after STN DBS in PD patients is validated. The model generates individual probabilities for becoming a weak responder one year after surgery. The model will be validated in a validation cohort collected from several international centers. Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurological condition, which affects the brain. PD gets worse over time, but how quickly it progresses varies a lot from person to person. Some symptoms of PD are tremors, stiffness, and slowness of movement. The purpose of this study is to see how feasible and how satisfied participants/caregivers/investigators are with video-assisted telenursing use in nurse support programs with LCIG. LCIG is an approved drug to treat PD. Approximately 50 adult participants with advanced PD will be enrolled in the study at approximately 10 sites across the world. The study has 2 groups. In one group, around 25 participants will receive nurse support using video devices. In the second group, around 25 participants will receive nurse support without using video devices. All participants will attend a baseline visit and follow up visits at Week 4 and Week 12. The planned observation period will be 12 weeks. Participants who are prescribed LCIG by their physicians will have three study related visits. Participants, caregivers, and investigators will be asked to complete questionnaires for the study.
