Variance of Video Games Playing Patterns Among Adolescents With Psychiatric Disorders
ADHDConduct3 moreAs the use of video games (VG) is rapidly increasing, many studies have tries to understand the effects of VG on the children and adolescents playing them. Most of the research was directed towards negative effects (especially violence, attention and school performance), producing mixed results. Recently, more studies had focused their attention on the opposite angle: The influence of the player's mental and behavioral parameters, influencing his VG playing patterns. The focus of most of these researches was time of playing, addictive patterns and exposure to violence. The current study will try to characterize the variance of VG playing pattern among adolescents diagnosed with psychiatric disorders, in order to better under the rich interaction between a player and his VG, and to understand whether VG playing patterns holds diagnostical clues for the child's diagnosis and his inner world.
Evaluation of a Video-Based Media Series to Promote Effective Parenting
Childhood Disruptive Behavior ProblemsResearchers are developing and experimentally evaluating two variants of a 10-episode, brief (12 minutes per episode), infotainment-style television series targeted at parenting practices, to determine the potential value of television for bringing evidence-based parenting practices to parents. The study compares an "information-only" version of the television series against an "enhanced" version that is designed to actively promote parents' adoption of the targeted strategies. Both versions of the series are compared against a waitlist control group. The media series is derived from the Triple P Positive Parenting Program.

Child Behavior ProblemAutism Spectrum Disorder5 moreObjectives The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the SREIA parent training program for families of children with ASD aged three to six years in mainland China. The study will be conducted within the context of routine service provision and assess the effectiveness of SREIA in reducing child behavioral problems as measured by the Externalizing scale of the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) for Ages 1.5-5, in comparison to a waitlist control group. Secondary objectives include examining the effectiveness of the SREIA program in reducing ASD symptoms and improving parental and familial outcomes including parental knowledge of ASD and ABA techniques, parenting styles, parental mental health (including stress, anxiety and depression), and family functioning. A process evaluation will be conducted alongside the quasi-experimental trial, the objectives of which are to 1) describe the implementation aspects of the programs with regard to participant involvement, program acceptability, delivery, and sustainability; 2) explore predictors of participant involvement; and 3) examine potential relations between implementation aspects and treatment effects. Background ASD is associated with elevated levels of child emotional and behavior disturbance, which impair child daily functioning and impose challenges to parenting. The SREIA programme is a group-based parent training in China, that has been delivered since 1993 and reached over 10,000 families. However, there is an absence of scientific evaluations of programme effectiveness. This study aims to fill this evidence gap, and the findings will be used to inform future modification, replication, and dissemination of the programme in other parts of China. This study will also contribute to the literature on the effectiveness of parent training programmes for ASD and for families living in low- and middle-income countries. Methods A quasi-experimental design with a mixed-methods approach will be used, involving two consecutive waves of delivery of the SREIA programme. Parent participants will complete demographic and outcome questionnaires at baseline, immediate post-intervention, and 1- or 1.5-year post-intervention (conditional to funding). The implementation components will be assessed by collecting attendance and engagement registry data, facilitators filling out fidelity checklists, research staff observing programme sessions, and parents answering a satisfaction questionnaire. After the programme, some parents, facilitators, and NGO (non-governmental organisation) managers will be invited to take part in qualitative interviews or focus group discussions so as to explore their views about the programme, and to better understand the quantitative data obtained.
Mental Health Services for Toddlers in Foster Care
Behavior ProblemsToddlers (2- to 3-year-old children) in foster care often have difficulty regulating behavior and biology, and are at risk for a host of mental health problems. Critical issues for toddlers straddle the challenges of infancy and preschool years. In particular, toddlers in foster care face significant challenges in forming new attachment relationships and developing behavioral and biological regulatory capabilities. This project will assess the effectiveness of an intervention that targets these issues. Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-up for Toddlers in Foster Care (ABC-T) was developed to help parents: provide nurturing care so that children develop secure, trusting relationships; and supporting children when they become overwhelmed that enhance children's ability to regulate behavior and biology. This intervention's effectiveness will be assessed in a randomized clinical trial.
Pilot Study of the Vermont Family Based Approach in Primary Care Pediatrics
Psychiatric DisorderThis pilot randomized controlled trial of the Vermont Family Based Approach (VFBA) tested the feasibility of the VFBA in primary care pediatrics and its effects on children's and parents' emotional and behavioral problems and health-related quality of life. The VFBA is a public health framework for evidence-based health promotion, prevention, and treatment that is delivered from the family perspective and emphasizes emotional and behavioral health. The VFBA group received the VFBA intervention, while the Control group received pediatric primary care as usual.
