L-menthol as a Topical Counter-irritant to TRPA1-induced Neurogenic Inflammation and Pain

InflammationPruritus1 more

The aim of this study is to quantitatively characterize the effects of L-menthol as a topical counter-irritant on cutaneous pain and hyperalgesia provoked by topical application of the TRPA1-agonist trans-cinnamaldehyde (CA) in healthy human volunteers.

Dermal Blood Flow Response to Escalating Doses of Histamine, Administered by a Skin Prick

Pruritus

To determine the effective dose and the time course, the dermal blood flow response to histamine will be evaluated at different doses (5 µg, 15 µg and 50 µg). Histamine will be administered by a skin prick on the volar surface of subjects' forearm, alongside a negative control. Changes in dermal blood flow will be measured with laser Doppler imaging at different time points following the skin prick.

Effect of Intrathecal Naloxone in the Incidence of Pruritis After C.S

Pruritis

This randomized prospective double-blind trial will be conducted on 80 Full-term pregnant females aged 21- 30 years presented for elective cesarean section under spinal anesthesia where they will be randomly allocated into two equal groups:- Group F (40 Patients): Patients in this group will receive spinal anesthesia with 10 mg hyperbaric bupivacaine (2 ml) plus 25 ug of fentanyl (0.5 ml). Group FN (40 patients): Patients in this group will receive spinal anesthesia with 10 mg hyperbaric bupivacaine (2 ml) plus 25 ug of fentanyl (0.5 ml) plus 20 ug naloxone. The study aim is to evaluate the effect of adding an ultra-low dose of naloxone (20 ug) to hyperbaric bupivacaine (10 mg0 and fentanyl (25 ug) in spinal anesthesia for C.S. Primary outcome: The incidence of pruritis Secondary outcome: The onset, the duration, the site, and the severity of pruritis.

Study Evaluating the Benefit of Music Therapy on Pruritus in Patients With Pruritic Dermatitis

Pruritus

Many clinical studies have shown the benefit of music therapy in various pathologies, including pain, and it is now established that the latter has a complementary therapeutic interest. Its most frequently identified indications are the fight against acute or chronic pains, the reduction of anxiety, depression and stress, as well as memory disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. The main modes of action of music therapy involve sensory, cognitive, psychological and behavioral processes that are also found in pruritus. Pruritus is defined as "an uncomfortable sensation causing the need to scratch. It has similarities with pain but also differences: relief by heat / cold, scratching / withdrawal behavior, localization on the skin, semi-mucous / ubiquitous ... etc. The pathophysiology also has similarities, pruritus is born at the dermal-epidermal junction at the level of specific cutaneous receptors then follows the classical pathways through a 1st neuron, then the dorsal horn of the spinal cord and a second neuron. At the cerebral level, there is no single center of pruritus but several motor and sensory areas involved. The similarities suggest that music therapy may have an interest in the management of chronic pruritus, especially since classical treatments (antihistamines, topical corticosteroids) have only partial efficacy in some dermatoses
