Nature-based Solutions for Work-related Stress

Although exposure to nature has restorative effects on human health, beneficial effects of nature-based interventions in the working environment have been underexplored. The investigators aim to conduct a randomised controlled pilot study. During workhours one group participates in a nature-based program, the other group is a control group. The investigators test stress-related parameters including cortisol levels, wellbeing and stress, and neurocognition.

Sevoflurane Versus Propofol; Neuro Endocrine Response in Patients of Oociyt Pick up

Patients in the study will be grouped as 1st group Propofol, 2nd Group Sevofluran.Preoperative blood will be taken from the patients and cortisol, acth, glucagon, aldosterone, PGE2, CRH will be studied. During the operation, the patient's systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation will be followed. Analgesia will be provided according to the body movements of the patient and VAS measurement will be performed. The patient's pain will be assessed by the VAS (Visuel Analogue Scale) scoring system and during the first hour postoperatively after the patient's consciousness is complete . Hormones such as cortisol, acth, glucagon, aldosterone, PGE2, CRH will be studied biochemically in the follicular fluid and blood of the patient postoperatively. The aim of in the study is to compare the effect of propofol and sevoflurane routinely applied in IVF centers on postoperative pain scores and stress hormones in blood and follicular fluid in a painful and stressful application of egg collection

This research has the following specific objectives: To elucidate how within-person variation in lifestyle factors affect fluctuations in blood glucose concentrations in individuals at high risk of diabetes.This study will elucidate how variation in food intakes, physical activity, and psychological stress affect variation in blood glucose concentrations throughout the day. These results can identify potential targets for interventions to reduce excessive fluctuations in blood glucose concentrations. To describe to what extent the response of individuals to a standardized meal tolerance test can predict real-life variation in blood glucose concentrations. This study will evaluate how much variation in glucose concentrations under real-life conditions can be explained by an individual's response to a standardized mixed meal tolerance test. This will provide insight into the relative importance of variation in dietary and other lifestyle behaviours on an individual's predisposition to higher blood glucose responses. To elucidate the role of oral processing behaviour and saliva properties on blood glucose concentrations. This study will elucidate whether variation in oral processing behaviours (e.g. number of chews taken, oro-sensory exposure time) and saliva properties (a-amylase activity, flow rate) predicts variation in blood glucose concentrations across individuals. To assess whether research collecting multiple repeated measures of food intake, activity, and stress is feasible in large-scale epidemiological studies.This study will provide important insights into the feasibility over the long-run to collect multiple repeated data points on lifestyle behaviours through mobile phone applications and 24-hour glucose and physical activity monitoring in large scale studies in the Singapore population.

Targeting the Health Care Provider (HCP) Burnout Crisis During the COVID-19 Pandemic

This single blind, randomized, controlled trial (RCT) evaluates, a nonpharmacological intervention, TM (Transcendental Meditation) for improving burnout (, as measured by self-reporting (survey), physiologic, and neuro-functional imaging studies in health care providers (HCPs) when practiced over 3 months' time. The investigators define HCPs as any physician, physician trainee, nurse, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or respiratory therapist. HCPs will be screened by a single-item stress scale and Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (CSSRS) to understand their stress level and exclusion criteria respectively. The Global Severity Index of the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI)-18 Global Severity score will be used as the primary outcome for pre- and post-TM training (baseline, 1 vs. 3 months). In addition, the investigators will evaluate physiological markers of stress and cardiovascular resiliency such as 1) changes (pre/post-treatment) in heart rate variability (HRV) through wearables, 2) Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) - changes in sweat gland activity that result from changes in an emotional state. fMRI will be performed by the Duke Brain Imaging and Analysis Center (BIAC) on a subset of participants to evaluate changes A specifically developed mobile app will aid data collection as well as reminders for providers to aid compliance for meditation

Within the components of Scuba diving there are similarities with meditation and mindfulness techniques. Perceived stress is known to be diminished during meditation practice. This study evaluates the benefits of scuba diving on perceived stress and mindful functioning.
