A Study of QT and QTc Intervals in Patients Administered Immediate Release Paliperidone

SchizophreniaSchizoaffective Disorder

The purpose of this study is to assess the cardiovascular safety of paliperidone in patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, with particular attention to the length of the QT/QTc interval, to measure and review other electrocardiogram (ECG) parameters, such as QRS and PR intervals, to explore the relationship between the pharmacokinetics of paliperidone and ECG parameters of interest, and to explore the safety and tolerability of paliperidone

A Study of QT and QTc Intervals in Patients Administered Extended Release Paliperidone or Quetiapine...

SchizophreniaSchizoaffective Disorder

The purpose of this study is to 1) determine whether the effect on QT interval corrected (QTcLD) for heart rate using the population specified linear derived method at steady state is comparable between 12 mg paliperidone extended-release (ER) once daily and that of 400-mg quetiapine administered twice daily, 2) to explore the relationship between the pharmacokinetics of paliperidone ER and electrocardiogram (ECG) parameters of interest, 3) to explore the cardiovascular safety and tolerability of 18 mg paliperidone ER at steady state, and 4) to evaluate the safety and tolerability of all treatments.

As Study of the Pharmacokinetics of Paliperidone Extended-release and Risperidone Immediate-release...

SchizophreniaSchizoaffective Disorder

The purpose of this study is to compare the steady-state pharmacokinetics of paliperidone after oral administration of 15 mg extended-release (ER) OROS paliperidone once daily with the steady-state pharmacokinetics of paliperidone after oral administration of 8 mg immediate-release (IR) risperidone twice daily; and to explore the dose-proportionality of 9 mg and 15 mg ER OROS paliperidone. Other objectives are to 1) document the disposition of the enantiomers of paliperidone; 2) explore the relationship between genotype (CYP2D6, CYP3A4, CYP3A5, UGT1A1, and UGT1A6) and pharmacokinetic parameters; and 3) assess safety and tolerability.

Quetiapine in the Treatment of Psychotic Depression - a Pilot Study

Psychotic Depression

Atypical antipsychotics have been found not only to be beneficial in the treatment of psychotic disorders, but even for depressive symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. Remarkably, preliminary data suggest that the atypical antipsychotic quetiapine has antidepressive properties. Until now, there is limited knowledge concerning the efficacy of quetiapine in major depressive illness and especially in psychotic depression. In our own clinical practice, several patients with psychotic depression were successfully treated with quetiapine as add-on therapy or as monotherapy. On the background of that, the convincing effects of quetiapine in bipolar depression, single-case reports and pilot studies concerning its effectiveness in depressive mood states in psychotic disorders as well as our clinical experiences, it is to assume that a treatment with quetiapine over a 6 weeks period show similar effects in major depressive episode with psychotic features, i.e. psychotic depression. In this pilot study we plan to investigate 20 patients with psychotic features of depression under treatment with quetiapine.

Extended Specialized Assertive Intervention for First Episode Psychosis

First Episode Psychosis of Schizophrenia and Schizotypal DisorderPsychotic Disorders2 more

In a randomized clinical trial, the researchers want to investigate if the positive short-term outcomes (first 1-2 years), achieved with specialized assertive intervention programme (OPUS), can be maintained for five years if the specialized treatment is sustained over the first five years in comparison to only two years of specialized treatment followed by three years of standard treatment.

Safety of Org 34517 900 mg in Patients Who Received Org 34517 in a Previous Trial (Study 28133/P05842)...

Depressive DisordersPsychotic Disorders1 more

Patients who participated in the previous trial 28130, who were eligible, were entered into this trial. Patients who were randomized to placebo in the previous trial 28130 continued on placebo while patients who were randomized to Org 34517 (SCH 900636), regardless of dose, were titrated to 900 mg Org 34517. Patients in this trial took their study medication for 2 weeks in order to study the safety and tolerability of Org 34517.
