A Pilot Study of Boredom in a Community Sample of Adolescents and a Clinical Sample of Adolescents...
Mental DisordersAffective Disorders3 moreThe aim of the following pilot study is to examine boredom in a community sample of adolescents and a clinical sample of adolescents. This is important in order to examine differences among healthy adolescents and adolescents with mental illness.
Diagnostic Survey of Mental and Substance Use Disorders in HUNT (PsykHUNT)
Mental DisordersSubstance Use Disorders2 moreThe aims of this observational survey are to i) gather experience on how to conduct a prevalence study of mental disorders in the Norwegian setting, ii) collect data on the prevalence, risk factors and consequences of mental and substance use disorders, iii) collect data on treatment coverage for mental and substance use disorders, iv) conduct a thorough nonparticipation analysis.
Impact of Burden in Caregivers of Patients Hospitalized for a Psychotic Episode: a Multicenter Study...
The Objective of Our Study is to Assess and Take Into Account Early on the Suffering of Family MembersFamily support is a positive predictor for psychiatric patients. For example, since the 1980s, it has been shown that family psychoeducation improves patient adherence to care and statistically decreases patient relapse and hospitalization rates by half, resulting in lower care costs. Yet, the stress of hospitalizing a patient, seeing the feelings of shame or guilt of caregiver and the impact on their quality of life are rarely taken into account by caregivers during the first weeks hospitalization in a patient's psychiatry. Barrelet emphasizes the importance of organizing the meeting in the first hours of hospitalization with the family in order to strengthen the alliance, to improve communication.
Early Detection of Mental Disorders in Adolescents With Chronic Pain: Creation of a Screening Tool...
Chronic PainMental DisorderThis research aims to create a tool for detection of mental health disorders in adolescents with chronic pain. The first part is testing a screening questionnaire and comparing in with existing questionnaires. The second part involves two focus group with the adolescents aimed at recording their perception of the questionnaire.
Effects of Atypical Antipsychotics on Appetite and Eating Behavior of Schizophrenia Patients
SchizophreniaSchizoaffective DisorderIn this study, we are going to investigate quantitative and qualitative natures of appetite and eating-behavior changes induced by atypical antipsychotics, i.e., risperidone, olanzapine and aripiprazole, in schizophrenia patients.
Anomalous Self-Experience in First Episode Psychosis - A Six-Year Follow-Up Study
Schizophrenia and Disorders With Psychotic FeaturesAffective Disorders2 moreThe objective of this study is to explore the longitudinal course of self-disturbances (SD) in schizophrenia. The main aim of the study is to investigate, in a 6-7-year follow-up of a representative sample of patients with first-episode schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other psychoses. The overall aim is to expand our knowledge about the role of SDs in psychotic disorders. Increased knowledge here will aid diagnosis and treatment. The current study is a seven year follow-up of this representative cohort, with baseline measures of SDs and a comprehensive clinical and neurocognitive assessment battery.
Correlation Between Clinical Deterioration in Schizophrenic Patients and Hair Cortisol Levels
SchizophreniaSchizo-Affective DisorderThe importance of stress as a possible deteriorating factor for schizophrenic patients is well documented. However, this notion is based on subjective experience and retrospective psychological analysis. A novel method of measuring cortisol using hair has a proven correlation to subjective stress in non-clinical as well as psychiatric clinical populations. This pilot study will attempt to assess the use of cortisol hair level, as a marker of stress, to predict clinical deterioration in schizophrenic patients.
Psychosis-Associated Neuroinflammation in Schizophrenia
SchizophreniaPsychosisPrevious research has suggested central nervous system inflammatory activity to be critically involved in disease development and progression in schizophrenia, with a complex interplay of inflammatory mechanisms leading to the development of brain abnormalities and medical symptoms related to schizophrenia. However, the mutual interactions of different inflammatory pathways and their relation to disease course have not been sufficiently studied. This study therefore aims to explore the interaction of neuroinflammatory mechanisms in patients with schizophrenia and to assess whether the inflammatory activity in schizophrenia is state-dependent and occurs mainly during psychotic episodes.
Well Being And Resilience: Mechanisms of Transmission of Health and Risk
Psychotic DisorderBipolar Disorder1 moreThe purpose of this study is to establish a cohort of pregnant women with severe mental disorder and to identify biological and psycho-social transmission mechanisms involved in the development of 'risk' and 'resilience' in the offspring. It is assumed that both 'resilient' and 'risk' development in offspring are caused by a complex interaction between multiple biological, psychological and social factors. The project focuses specifically on exploring the impact of physiological stress-sensitivity, attachment, care-giving and the familial and social context for care-giving. Previous studies support these factors as important for the development of these infants, but systematic research using a prospective design is needed to strengthen evidence and elucidate the importance of these factors in more detail. The interaction over time of physiological stress-sensitivity, attachment, care-giving and the familial and social context for care-giving are evaluated in terms of the evolution of very early indicators of developmental risk and resilience in infants with a known highly increased risk for developing a mental disorder. The findings of the study may potentially lead to more specific targets for preventive interventions, which can improve developmental outcome for these infants.
Schizophrenia, Antipsychotic Treatment and the Risk for Diabetes Mellitus
SchizophreniaSchizoaffective Disorder1 moreThis preliminary study aims to investigate the mechanism of higher rates of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients with schizophrenia. As part of the study, we collect neuroendocrine-immune data on patients with first episode, treatment naive psychosis, patients with newly diagnosed schizophrenia and normal healthy controls. Regardless the treatment status, we collect the same neuroendocrine-immune data on the participants after 2 months.
