Cognitive Training for Patients With Schizophrenia

SchizophreniaSchizoaffective Disorder1 more

This research on cognitive training addresses the following questions: Does cognitive training lead to improved cognition, functional abilities, psychiatric symptoms, treatment adherence, or quality of life in patients with psychoses? What are the neurocognitive and non-cognitive factors that predict good outcomes following cognitive rehabilitation? In addition to verbal learning and memory, immediate verbal memory, vigilance, and executive functioning, the cognitive training intervention attempted to improve prospective memory ability (i.e., the ability to remember to do things in the future, such as take medications or attend a doctor's appointment).

An intensified clinical management (CM), which allows needs-based psychological crisis intervention, is compared to a combination of such a CM and the atypical neuroleptic amisulpride. The central hypothesis is that the combination of a clinical management with an atypical neuroleptic is the superior treatment.

Improving Access to Early Psychosis Coordinated Specialty Care

Psychosis

The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of developing an Early Psychosis CSC service delivery model suitable for rural settings in NC. Major challenges to delivery of specialized health care services for persons in the early stages of psychosis include the high level of provider expertise and the frequency and intensity of services. These challenges limit the feasibility of brick-and-mortar programs to serve individuals living in rural settings. This study proposes to expand service delivery methods to include telehealth as a potential solution.
